C.1 - Beginning | Part 3

"Who's that man?" Ben asked in his innocent voice. I shifted my attention to the man behind me, getting slightly worried.

The man stood in the doorway of Ben's room. He stood with what looked like our kitchen knifes and the darkness covered his face. The light cutting through the air making a square of light only inches away from were he stood.

I heard Ben's breathing picking up as he nuzzled his head into my back in fright. Slightly damping my shirt with his tears. I whimpered at his touch and stared blankly at the shadow of a man.

He took one step towards the light, revealing his worried face. Wait worried? His expression slightly confused and worried at the same time. It clicked. This man wasn't a danger. It was Tobi.

"Oh Tobi, I didn't realize it was you." I said in relief, moving slightly so Ben could see that Tobi was not a threat. Ben shakily looked up at Tobi, still holding the knifes. Ben quivered at the sight of the knifes and Tobi noticed.

"Oh don't worry Ben I won't hurt you. My name is Tobi." Tobi said, setting down the knifes next to my foot. He croached down, a metre away from Ben who was inclosing himself away.

"It is okay Ben, Tobi is a good guy." I smiled at Ben who looked at me for approval. Ben looked back at Tobi, who held his hand out. I watch as Ben giggled ever so slightly and placed his small hands into Tobi's. They shook hands and Tobi stood up from a crouch and so did I. Ben, being a shy toddler, hid behind my leg, still clutching his toy.

"We need to get out of here. Get out of the city. Tobi you can either leave us or join us." I said pointing to the door.

"My friends are close here. I recognized the town name. They shouldn't be far." Tobi said, looking me straight in the eye. I headed down the stairs, Ben behind me, carefully. Trying not to make a sound before answering.

"How close is close?" I asked Tobi as he walked of the last step and joining me in the run down living room.

"Just a few miles. If we go out of town it should be a 10 minute drive. But we are limited on time. I suggest we leave right now, no stops, no nothing" Tobi stated. I was fine with it. It was Ben I was worried about. I nodded to Tobi and looker over at Ben who was gazing at the over turned sofa.

"Ben? How does that sound?" I asked, grabbing his attention. He looked at me, holding his bunny tight, and nodded. Nearly unsure about his answer.

"Okay good. Let's go. Tobi you drive so then Ben can be on my lap." I said putting my arm around Ben and guiding him out the house.

"Wait! Why are we going to were 'obi wants to go?" Ben said, stopping dead right outside the car.

"Because, then we can all be safer with more people." Tobi said with a smile. Opening the car door to the drivers seat. Ben said something I couldn't quite hear and waited for me at the opposite door.

"How much further!" Ben whined, Tobi hadn't even started the car yet. Ben always had his cheeky side. Me and Tobi laughed in unison and headed out of town.

"Ah! Ben you have got a boney bum!" I laughed as Ben wriggled on my lap. Without notice, he swiveled around and faced Tobi.

"Are you two going out?" Ben asked sweetly. I rolled my eyes and focused on what was happening out the window. Ben always thought that every friend who was a boy was my boyfriend. And besides. Me and Tobi have only just met. Yet, I am trusting him with my life.
