"Hey sleeping beauty, wake up."
The 21 year old had her head on the counter and refused to wake up as the 25 year old gently tapped her shoulder. Annoyed, he began to grab her shoulders and shook her vigourously.
"Bitch, wake the fuck up."
"..." She refused. He growled at her and proceeded to shout in her ear.
"WOW LOOK AT THESE CUTE LESBIANS-" She jolted up immediately, dissapointed rather quickly. "WHAT WHERE-you slimey bastard."
"Sorry babe but we got a crowd right now and I can't have you sleeping on the job." He shook his head and proceeded to continue making a drink for a customer."Mind you, fucker, I got only 2 hours of sleep. TWO." She angrily shook two fingers in his face.
"Ain't a way I can help you with that babe."
"Stop calling me that, you fucker." She rubbed her tired eyes.
"Whatever hun-" He stuck his tongue out at her.
"Dio, I'm going to fucking dropkick you into orbit." She smirked at him while she had balled her hand up into a fist.
"Alright Sei, just go splash some water on your face and stay up because I'm marking out soon." He waved the kettle of water towards the worker bathroom.
"Oh hell no are you leaving, I just got up bruh. Where do you think you're going?"
"I'm preparing for my sister to return from out of town."
She frowned. "Fuck you and your pretty sister-"
"Look I know you want to but just take care of the damn shop when I leave alright?"
"Yeah yeah." She waved her hand as though it was an easy task, though truthfully it wasn't. She walked over to the bathroom, shoving the door open and turning on the sink, splashing herself in the face with cold water and a regretful scream of "f uCK!" She quickly splashed herself with warm water and dried herself with a paper towel.
"Alright, you seem woken up enough so can you deal with those lovely customers waiting over there?" Dio lifted the whipped cream aerosol can and pointed at a line of around 4 people who stood by the counter just to the left of where she was sleeping just a minute ago.
"Hm." She simply nodded and walked over to the waiting citizens, listening to their orders and whatever special things they wanted added, doing her best alongside Dio to clear out the line of people.
After a pain of walking around for 30 minutes and fixing up around 6 drinks, she finally continued to slouch on the counter, trying to get another nap again, until it was the same sound as yesterday, the ringing of those obnoxious bells.
And there she was.
"Woah, what's up with you? You look like you've seen your uttermost savior."
"DIO I SWEAR I'LL CUT OFF YOUR HEAD AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A BLOODY ACCIDENT, DON'T TEST ME."
"Christ woman, you seriously like her," He pointed towards Naomi, "don't you?"
"She's nice. That's all I'll have to say on the matter, thank you very much."
"She came here recently, so yesterday? Day before? Last friday? What happened, hmmm?" He elbowed her playfully and she gave him a sharp jab back, causing him to wince in regret.
"Yesterday, you nosy bastard."
"Well then, why don't you take her order again?" He checked his wristwatch, clearly eager to leave. Not for his sister of course, he hated her. She knew that he hated this place as much as she did and that meeting a terrible sibling would still be better than this job. But hey, it wasn't that bad if she got to serve people like Naomi, speaking of which-
"Hi can I order a-oh, it's you again! Sei, right?"
Sei peeked over her shoulder to find Dio who was busy on his phone. God, she wanted to punch him for putting her in this situation.
"Is something wrong?"
She turned back to Naomi. "Nope, nothing, just my imagination. So let me guess, an Americano?"
Naomi smiled and giggled. "Hah, yeah, you already know me."
"Alright." Sei ended awkwardly, unsure how to get the conversation to end in a better way. Dio snorted at her as Naomi walked over to an empty table.
"Dude. That was literally the most pathetic conversation I've ever seen."
"Alright Fuckface, if you think you're such tough shit, what would you have done?" Sei barked at him as she began to make the same drink she did yesterday.
"Well, for starters, not that. Why are you so tense about her anyway? Did she like, do something yesterday?"
Sei couldn't believe she really was gonna tell him, but hell, maybe he'd be some sort of help. "She left me a cute note after making her like 3 coffees."
"Oh my god that's precious."
"I know right?? She's too pure, Jesus Christ."
"Alright, here's what you do. Based on her look and the fact she's drinking so much coffee, she's got to be a college student. Why don't you go to take a break and ask her where she goes?"
"But-but I can't take a break! You're leaving soon aren't you?"
"Her flight got delayed. Don't worry, I'll cover you." He shooed her. "Now go give her her coffee, you don't want to give it to her cold."
"Alright, alright." She rolled her eyes at him and walked over to the counter where she normally left the drink for customers, flicking up the lock to open the door next to it and very slowly walked over to where Naomi was sitting and typing away on her laptop like yesterday.
Sei froze and looked at Dio for any bit of advice he could give, and he looked at her and pointed at Naomi and mouthed "Go!" at her, putting his head in his hands as she asked back "how?"
Seeing Dio was no help, she made her way to Naomi and finally said "Uhm, here's your uh, coffee."
Naomi looked up from her work and showed a bit of surprise. "Oh, thank you! You didn't have to, y'know." Sei put the coffee down on the table.
"It-it's fine. Don't mention it."
Naomi turned her focus to her work again, not minding that Sei was standing there and unable how to respond until she finally said, "Uhm, do you mind if I sit here?"
"Hm? Oh, sure."
Sei pulled a seat from the table and sat down, putting her hands on the table and twiddling her thumbs. She looked up at Dio to see him shaking his head at her, clearly dissapointed in how badly she was pulling this off.
She looked back at Naomi, who was busy typing away.
"Soooooo uh, what college do you go to?"
"Cornell." She responded without missing a beat.
"Woah, that's an Ivy League isn't it? Congrats. Must be hard, right?"
"Yeah. It's challenging, I guess." She continued typing away.
"Hm." She muttered to herself, unable what to do to further the conversation.
"What about you?" Naomi turned her gaze from her computer to Sei. She felt as though her eyes burned holes through her body. "You're obviously young enough for college."
"Oh, I wish I could've gotten into something like Cornell. I just attend the community college with night classes." Sei sighed, feeling pathetic of her own words.
"Oh uh, I'm sorry if I've offended you oh gosh-" Naomi stopped typing as she spoke.
"No no, it's fine." She shrugged it off. "So, what are you trying to major in?"
"Trying to get to vetschool, hah. Don't do it if you go back. It's hell."
"Oh. I'll keep that in mind, I guess."
"If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan on pursuing? As a career."
The question caught Sei by surprise, unable to answer and simply saying a mere "Hm?"
"I mean, I'm sure you don't plan on working here all of your life." She grinned at Sei.
Sei smiled back, though much more nervous than she came off as. "Yeah, of course not. This job's terrible, to tell you the truth. I'm trying to major in the music industry, but we all know how impossible that is." She sighed.
"Well, I think that if you can put your heart to it, you can achieve it. Now uh, oh god look at the time. I have to get to class, see you-wait, when's your next shift?" She got up and packed up her laptop while asking.
Sei was puzzled. "I work here the whole week. Why?"
"Is that so? Great! I'll see you tomorrow then!" She proceeded to put on her bag around her shoulder and waved to Sei as she left.
"You know, you are really bad with small talk. But you got somewhere champ, that's what matters!" Sei turned around to see Dio smirking at her.
"You know what else I've achieved? A longer conversation with a cute girl than you'll ever have in your life."
"Not cool."
