"Are you going to go see her?" Emery tried to whisper at the lunch table, but his whisper isn't quite quiet. I seen Nosey Nancy peering over her sandwich to see what my answer was. I just shrugged my shoulders. The truth, I don't know. After she refused to let me visit her, ignored all my questions, and just pushed me away when I needed her the most, I don't think I ever want to talk to her again.
"I seen pictures of her, she's gorgeous." Emery looked down at his phone, probably to find a saved photo of her in his gallery.
"Dude, you ain't right." I joked, reaching in my bag to realize I'm out of Cheetos. "Damn it."
"How am I not right? I mean, it wasn't technically declared or stated that she murdered someone. If she truly did it, she would be locked up right? Not in an mental institution."
I went to disagree with him, but he shoved his phone in my face. You could barely see her face. But you can see she has matured, and grown over the past five years. I swallowed hard, see that picture made my throat go dry.
"What are you doing here? How did you get in here?" I panicked in a whisper. She leaned over and turned my lamp on. My eyes are still unfocused due to sleepiness. Right now, she looks like a red and blonde blur. I rubbed my eyes to realize she was covered, in what I'm praying is ketchup. Tears were steadily falling from her eyes, her hands were trembling. I could feel my heart speeding up in curiousity.
"Owen, you have to help me." She cried. I scooted up so I was face to face with her, instead of her leaning over top of me.
"Perrie."
"I did, but I didn't Owen!" She managed to spit out. I couldn't wrap my head around what was happening right now. She is covered in 'ketchup', which is starting to dry on her. "I'm scared Owen."
"Perrie, what--", I stopped in the middle of question when we both heard sirens.
"Owen help me!' She hollered. I instantly covered her mouth before she woke my parents up. Her shaking in fear, made me shake in fear.
"You have to be quiet. What happened Perrie? Is that b-b-bl-blood?" I stuttered. She couldn't focus, the sirens are getting louder.
"They know I'm here. They have to. Daria probably told." She got off the bed and scurried to my window, which I just realized was opened.
"Wait, Perrie. What's going on?" I panicked, and threw the blankets off of me. She slowly climbed back onto my roof, making sure no one seen her movement. "Perrie wait, I'm coming with you."
As soon as I said that she looked at me with big eyes, in disbelief. I went over to my dress to throw on jeans -
"Dude, are you done drooling over that picture?" Emery's voice dragged me out of the past. I repeatedly began to blink, then looked around. The lunchroom was slowly clearing out, it's almost over and I never got time to get another bag of Cheetos. "Well man, if you don't talk to her when she comes back to school, I will."
I shook my head, "She isn't going to come back to school. If she does, it'll be private school or home school." As soon as I finished my sentence, Emery busted out a laugh, I peeked down the table to see Nosey Nancy snickering. "What?"
"Bro, you are always behind with shit." He shook his head, "She's coming back dude. She's in my homeroom, I seen her name on the seating chart. She's like diangle from me."
She's coming back? This made my stomach feel uneasy, and my heart began to race. My heart hasn't went this fast since the incident in my bedroom.
"I can't believe you didn't hear that she was coming back. She's been the talk of the school for a week."
"Years actually." Nancy chimed in before I could, "For 5 years, she has always been in everyone's conversation. She has always been the center of attention then, and she still is now. Except," She paused to take one last chug of her milk cartoon, "I'm not jealous at the amount of attention she has now, she can have everyone's attention." She giggled.
"This is why you have no friends." I slammed my fist down on the table. "You always butt into people's shit, when nobody is talking to you." I stood up, quickly collecting my trash and throwing it on my tray. I threw my back over my shoulder and began to walk away from them.
"You know," I heard Nancy try to quiet whisper to Em, "he was always so protective over her."
