Imagine this a tale of chance, fate, and a lot of luck.
Boy meets girl, girl meets boy and instantly everything seems right in the world. Wrong.
Hi, my name is Ariel Kaitlin Nicole Thorpe. And this is the unfortunate tale of my life.
Life is never easy but it gets worse when you grow up where I have. Everyone thinks it's great living by the city having great schools, hospitals and everything else around that one would need. Go about five miles out of the city and you're now in the suburbs ; but not like all the perfect development homes in movies. No it's a totally blue collar area with old school team rivalries. On this day though I'm dressed in black along with everyone else I know. We look a pitiful sight.
Too many teenagers and twenty something's all huddled together under umbrellas outside smoking and crying. Inside the sight was much worse. We were huddled in groups and crying and hoping that she wasn't actually dead. Hoping that she would get up out of the casket and smile and laugh and say it was all one big joke. Even though we all knew better we still hoped against hope that the sight before our eyes was a false one. We all knew it wasn't but still we hoped. My good friend Kat had just died. Everyone including the doctors thought she would make it but I knew differently. She had let the beast win. Leaving so much sorrow and pain in her wake. She died on a Friday in July. The funeral was Monday. She died of a heroine overdose. We were all left behind trying to figure out why and coming to the conclusion that we would never ever know what made her demons so bad that she felt like dying was her only way out.
I came alone. It was better that way. None of us ever thought we would be drawn together this way.
My best guy friend Dillion comes up and holds me after I go past her casket and sit down to say a quick prayer.
"Never thought we would be here for this" he says.
"Me either"
"She didn't even make it to her twentieth birthday"
She had though to Talia's twenty-first. Though I would never say that out loud. That was too mean and harsh, and one should never speak ill of the dead like that.
Talia, MK, me, Dillion, Sean, and nick were all huddled together trying to figure out what we were gonna do later to celebrate her life. Dillion helped to keep me upright most of the time. I was too exhausted both physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Nick suggested we all go to the well. We all agreed.
