Part three:

***

It was a rainy night in La Push, and in Leah’s room, it was cold and dark. The only source of light was a dimly lit bedside lamp.

Leah’s face was illuminated by it. Her beautiful face was emotionless and she sat still by the window.

Someone was knocking softly on her door. But there was no sign that Leah even heard it.

“Leah?” Seth called quietly. “Leah? Are you awake? You haven’t eaten all day… You haven’t touched the food I left here outside your door… I brought you dinner… You have to eat, Lee… Mom and Dad are getting worried… Leah? Leah, I’ll open the door now…”

The door opened and Seth came in holding a tray Leah’s favorites.

He saw Leah and frowned. Instantly, the eleven year old felt angry. Even Emily, who was downstairs talking to his Mom and Dad, looked miserable.

Did Emily feel angry at Sam, too? She was Leah’s best friend after all. Did Emily share the hate growing in Seth’s heart?

He couldn’t believe Sam did this to his sister. He wasn’t the type to hate people, but right now, seeing Leah so pale and lifeless, he found it easy to get angry at Sam.

How could he leave Leah? All she did was love him!

He was there, eavesdropping, when Sam told Leah that they had to break up.

He didn’t even say a reason!

Then he left her there.

Seth came up to her after a few moments when he recovered from the shock.

But she stood there like lightning struck her. She couldn’t speak or walk or move.

Seth took her home with the help of Leah’s friend, Hillary.

When they got home, it was as if their Dad already knew. He looked so glum. He told them to get Leah in her room and leave her there, and then he left.

Hillary helped him.

Since then, Leah hasn’t come out of her room. She appeared as if she wasn’t there at all; no one could break her trance.

It’s been four days… He hasn’t even seen Sam since then…

How could he do it? What did she do to deserve this?

… perhaps she loved Sam too much…

Sam, wherever you are, I hope you get what you deserve, Seth thought bitterly.

He put down the tray and went to Leah and put a hand on her shoulder. He shook her. “Lee! Lee, you have to eat. You’ll starve to death!”

She ignored him, or, didn’t notice him.

“Lee… Please… Don’t do this to yourself…”

Seth felt so sorry for his sister. Her world suddenly ended...

He loved his sister, and seeing her like this… He was definitely angry at Sam. How could he ever have thought Sam was good? Clearly he was wrong.

After a few more minutes on trying to force Leah to eat, he gave up.

Before he left, he gave her a tight hug.

“I still love you, Leah. You don’t need him. We still love you.” He declared. ”And I won’t ever leave you. I won’t be like him, sis.”
