I let my howl fade away, echoing through the chambers.  I stared at her body.  She couldn’t be dead.  She couldn’t.

“No.  She’s not dead. I won’t allow it,” I growled and stalked forward.  Luke growled at me, not wanting anyone close.

“Silence,” I snapped at him, and shoved him out of my way.  He snarled at me, but I turned, shoving my face into his.  My lips were pulled back and I snarled.

“Don’t. Try. It.” I growled. I turned back to Kenzie, and curled up beside her body.  I let myself relax, and touched my nose to her fur. My body went rigid, fur bristling and tail bushing out. I forced my way past the barriers of her body, and entered the spirit of her.  I felt my own spirit leave my body, and my body fell limp.  I made my spirit swarm hers, and then her body began to glow. The light gradually grew, and soon it was too bright for Justin and the others to look at her. The light started at her nose, and slid down her body, stopping at her tail tip.  The light disappeared and I felt her spirit grow in strength.

Kenzie.  Come back.  Come on back,  My spirit murmured to her spirit, and I felt realization flash in her.  I let myself slip back into my body, making it go rigid for a moment.  I flooded control over my bones, and pushed up.  With a crack, her broken spine and neck snapped back to normal, and then a few seconds later she opened her eyes.  Her fur was very rumpled, and in the places where her spine and neck were broken were now scars that were fading. I heard pawsteps and looked to see the russet wolf coming towards Kenzie and me. Luke was now laying beside Kenzie, tail wagging and eyes shining with joy and happiness.

“What happened?” Kenzie asked, her voice ringing in my mind. I wondered how.  It was the russet wolf that replied.

“You had fought to protect Cori, and the hyenas had swarmed you.  They broke your spine and neck, instantly killing you. But Cori has revived you. And Cori, if there are multiple shapeshifters in wolf form, we can hear each other’s thoughts, but if not one’s you don’t want us to.”  Kenzie looked at me in confusion and surprise.

“You’re a Pure One?”  I nodded.

“Yeah, I guess so.  I didn’t know it until today.”  Kenzie still looked confused though, she looked back at Justin.

“How did she revive me and bring me back to life, without using her own?  Is that even possible?”  Justin looked just as mystified as her.

“I don’t know.  This has never happened before, or I or my mom would know, and my mom normally tells me things of great importance as this.”  I jumped in,

“Wait.  Other Pure Ones haven’t been able to do this, what I’ve just done?”  Justin looked at me and shook his head.

“No, not that I know of.  But we should consult the Queen about it.  Come on.” He then turned, still in wolf form, and started trotting down the hall. I turned and ran after him, hearing the patter of the others paws following. It took much less time to get back to the Queen’s dorm than it had to get to the Underground Tunnel exit, maybe it was because we were in our wolf forms. We burst into the Queen’s dorm, but found it empty.  We all changed to human form. I walked to the balcony as the others barred the door and checked the room.  I looked down and saw, with horror, the Camp Clearing splattered with puddles of blood.  There were wolves and hyenas fighting. Their snarls, growls, and howls of pain echoed up to me.  One howl split through the rest and I saw a light brown, almost russet, wolf battling five hyenas by herself.  The light brown wolf fought viciously, but once she battled one away two more took its place.  She was starting to tire, her fur was almost red with blood, and her pelt was missing many tufts.  I could tell that the wolves were outnumbered bad, and we were losing.  There was a yap nearby me, and I leaned over to look down.  What I saw filled me with fury and anger, for right there, on the ground, was a little pup faced by three large hyenas. The hyenas were advancing on the young wolf pup, their jaws foaming. A howl rang out, full of rage, and I vaguely realized that it was my own. I broke the marble balcony bars, and then jumped to another balcony, onto the roof, and slid down the slate roof, stopping at the edge. My white fur bristling, eyes blazing, ears flattened, my shadow fell upon the hyenas. They looked up at me, their eyes gleaming with pleasure. Then they saw my angered, vicious expression, and I saw their eyes cloud with fear.  One lunged at the pup as the others ran off, and I snarled.  I launched off the slates, braking many of them, and slammed into the hyena.  We rolled, snapping, biting, snarling. A yelp, and it was over.  I kicked the hyena’s body off of me and stood up.  I padded to the pup. It was trembling and staring at the dead hyena with frightened eyes.
