Hanging out with Riker's band was really cool.
That's what I caught myself constantly thinking as I hung out with them. They were funny and had really great chemistry with each other. I couldn't believe they were mostly brother and sister because many of my friends who had siblings were always complaining about their siblings.
Seeing them, it made me long to have my own brother or sister.
As lame as it sounds, I really liked hanging out with them. They made me feel belonged somewhere and they were really nice to me. I hoped to hang out more, but I knew it was just wishful thinking. Once school properly started, I'd be rushing to complete schoolwork on top of earning money to keep myself afloat, there'd simply be no time.
Plus they were famous so they probably toured around a lot.
I thought to myself sadly realising that it would be unwise to hang around them too much. I mean, what if I got into a habit? That would be terrible.
"I need to go," I said suddenly.
"What? Why?" Riker whined.
"Break's over."
Truth be told, I have no idea how long I had been on break for. But hey! That was always an excuse.
"But-"
I laughed. "Sorry, dude. Work is work."
"Oh," he said sadly.
I found it pretty sweet how someone cared so much for me and wanted me stay. It hadn't happened for a long time. I smiled at him. "Maybe tomorrow."
His face fell. "But we'd be in another state by then!"
I shrugged and with a sheepish smile and ran out of the place before he realised I had left. Once I was in the store, the first thing that occurred to me was that it was empty. Like, really empty.
I told myself the double D's were probably doing things I didn't want to know about in the employee lounge, which was generally not really supported by Leigh, whether or not there was someone outside to man the register or not.
I opened it to make sure it had cash inside. Thankfully, it still did.
So it was just going to be another long and lonely day at work.
Not that I was expecting something more exciting to happen.
I spoke too soon.
The fire alarm started going off. I chuckled, thinking that the double D'a had accidentally set it off from our shop as they had done so before. I started giggling when I remembered the last time it had happened. It was very embarrassing for them, but I still found it hilarious.
Maybe that's why I didn't have a lot of friends.
I saw everyone rushing about outside. I giggled even harder. What a panic!
The last time the two at the back room had set off the alarm, firemen burst into the store, demanding to know where the fire was. Everyone was so confused as to what had happened. However, through keeping my ears open, I found out that Diane and Darren had been caught unaware of their surroundings, and one of them accidentally activated it.
Amazing.
I took out one of my textbooks and kept reading, putting on a CD to play in the shop. Why not?
I twirled the pen between my fingers, bored by what I was reading. The music plus the air conditioning and the fact that I had just eaten made me feel really sleepy. I put my head down for a while, but I didn't realise how dangerous sleeping on the job is.

Short chapter but I promise the next one will be in Riker's POV. I never wanted it to happen, but I guess I just feel like it. HOPE YOU LIKED THIS!!
