"Now Alice, take a deep breath for me." Doctor Kelly said, putting her stethoscope on my chest.

I took a deep breath, in through the nose out through the mouth. Every since I was young, I didn't like hospitals. My dad died in one, and my grandma had a stroke. And here I was, in the same hospital where I lost two important people in my life...

"Your heart and lungs sound good, you look healthy, but I'd get you in for a CAT scan." Doctor Kelly said, writing down notes on her clipboard.

"So, she's okay?" My mother asked, looking concerned.

Doctor Kelly just nodded her head, and headed out of the room. "CAT scan soon honey, rest up."

I took my phone out and checked the time, it's was 3:34pm. My mom sat down and opened a magazine up, and I on the other hand closed my eyes and tried to relax... Ever since I hit a fever of 105.1 two days ago, my mother has been worried sick about me. She has dark circles under her eyes from staying up late to make sure I'm okay, and her hair is greasy because she hasn't had one minute to shower. Ever since my dad died, my mom was been working all hours to keep paying bills, and feeding us. My aunt has offered to help, but my mom refuses to have any help. I turned 16 three days ago, and the only thing I got was a cake and a new phone. Not much, but it was enough...

"Miss Monty?" A nurse asked, holding a clipboard.

"That's me." I said, trying to sit up.

"Time for a CAT scan, mom we'll be back within an hour." The nurse said, while coming over to the bed and pushing me out into the hallways...

When I got back from the CAT scan, my mom sat up and greeted the nurse and I.

"God Alice, at least you're breathing." She said, coming up to the side of the bed.

I coughed, and rolled my eyes. "Love you too mom."

"Well, we'll get the results in a few." The nurse said, smiling. "Take care!"

After the nurse walked out, my mom sat back down and sighed.

"Alice, what am I supposed to do?" My mom asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Mom... I'm gonna be okay, don't worry."

My mom wiped tears from her eyes, and sniffled. "Honey, I don't know if I can pay these bills... I just got laid off from work..."

I sighed. "Really? That sucks, I'm sorry mom."

"No need to worry, I have your aunt Helena helping out." My mom said, while she was picking up her purse.

"Where you headed off too?" I asked.

"Hospital food sucks, I'll be back." My mom said, walking out of the room.
