Nerdy facts!
The term 'nerd' originated with Dr. Seuss, who first used it in his 1950′s book 'If I ran the Zoo.' In the book, Gerald McGrew is a kid who when visiting a zoo finds that the exotic animals are "not good enough." He says that if he ran the zoo, he would let all of the current animals free and find new, more bizarre, and more exotic ones. Today the term 'Nerd' is used to describe people who are interested in and enjoy science, books, learning, and generally love hanging out in libraries- much like I did. However, dressing 'nerdy' is in fashion at the moment- go figure.
The first pedal-driven bicycle was built in Scotland in 1839 by Kirkpatrick Macmillan. Whilst there have been many improved parts such as frames, brakes, wheels, and seats, the general parts and principles have not changed. They are still human powered and you still fall off the first time you learn to ride.
There are some 50 million bicycles made every year, with the bicycle being an average form of transport in China.
