Chapter 13 » warm welcomes
I felt sick.
The worry that we may have lost Liam was really getting to me.
He means a lot to me.
Which is odd because I don't care that much for many people.
But Liam reminds me of younger me, just a male version. I've always seen him as a little brother and the thought of losing him terrified me.
The fact that I failed to protect him, it made me feel so guilty.
"Okay right if you were a dread doctor where would you be?" I questioned myself as I paced up and down the empty path.
"In an underground network of caves."
I spun around when I heard the voice of someone I never thought I'd see again.
"What the fuck?!"
"Shay don't freak out-"
"What the fuck, Isaac!" I practically yelled.
"I can't decide whether you're happy to see me or-"
"What the hell?" I practically screamed. I was a hurricane of emotions. "You can't just turn up like this and you can't just causally steal my uncles lines like that!"
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry does not even begin to cover it, Isaac!"
He bit his lip, unsure when he spoke again. "I'm incredibly sorry."
"Do you want me to rip your throat out!"
"Still making those threats, huh."
I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and slammed him against the wall, making him wince in pain.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded.
"I was just visiting!" He said desperately, trying to get out of my grip.
"Tell me the truth." I pushed him harder against the wall.
"Okay, okay. Chris told me you were struggling."
"Well I'm just peachy, thank you. Now get the fuck back to France! And why the hell did it take you six months to decide to come!"
"Because I wanted to avoid this!" He defended.
"Bullshit. You're working with the dread doctors aren't you."
"I don't even know who they are?"
I scoffed. "Don't lie to me."
"I'm not lying to you. Listen to my heartbeat!"
It was steady. But I didn't want to be fooled.
"Shay?" I let go of Isaac and turned to face Theo, who was stood looking incredibly confused
"Who are you?" Isaac asked, straightening his jacket down.
"Theo Raeken." He replied with an equally cold stare. "Who the hell are you?"
"Isaac Lahey."
Theo turned to me, eyebrows arched. "Scarf boy?"
I tried to stifle my laugh, a grin plastered on my face. "That's the one."
"There's nothing wrong with my scarves." Isaac argued, folding his arms over his chest.
"Yeah, okay. Whatever." Theo looked back over at me. "Need any help?"
