Tyler’s POV

“Oh okay, since it’s not a surprise anymore, and the moment is totally ruined. Alex, I know this is not the perfect time for me to ask you this, nor the perfect time for me  to do this, but Alex,” I knelt down and opened the box containing a dog tag with the words,’ Forever’ engraved on it.  “Will you take me back as your boyfriend?”

I looked up to see his reaction and saw what I expected all along.

“Ty, I don’t know what to say.” He said. “I really don’t.”

“Just answer me with a yes or a no. No explanations needed.” I tried to smile through the anxiety.

“I can’t Ty.” His expression was blank. It could mean anything.

“Why not?” I asked as my smile faded.

He sighed. “I can’t lie to you and tell you that I do want you back. We both know that I still love Kyle. But I can’t say no, because I don’t want you to leave again.”

I looked away from his eyes. “I see.” I said as I closed the box.

He got into my level and cupped my chin then tilted it to make me face him. “Tyler, I don’t need a boyfriend right now, all I need now is a friend to stand by me during this rough times. And that’s you. I don’t want to lose you because of a stupid relationship that I know will be a big lie if I answered you ‘yes’.” He smiled

“I understand.” I tried to smile.

“You are more important than Kyle, remember that!” He said that with a big smile plastered on his face.

“How did I become more important, when it’s him you love?” I asked

He pressed my cheeks together. “Because you never gave up on me, you never left me even if I pushed you away so many times, and you are my bestest best friend ever!”

Weird that he’s the one cheering me up. Add to that, I just got friend zoned.

“Thanks, I guess.”
