"He never called me." Alyson whines through the phone.

"Whine, whine, whine. He probably doesn't have your number." I make and excuse for him; he better thank me later.

"Everybody has my number, I'm in the school directory, duh."

She's right. We all have everyone's number, since out school is so small, they made a little pamphlet full of our cell phone numbers so we can have contacts for class. Except, knowing Parker, he probably lost it; he loses everything, and I always hear people telling about how they still don't have something back from when they lent it to Parker.

"Okay, you got me there. Just talk to him tomorrow, don't tell how you already know about the carnival tickets, make something else up for Saturday and tell him that you have tickets for something else, just something really lame. Then he will tell you about the tickets." I smile at my plan with satisfaction, even though Alyson doesn't see it since we are on the phone.

She hesitates and is silent for a little while, so long that I have to make sure she is still there. Finally she responds, "Yeah, I guess I can do that.

"Good, see. It will all work out."

I brush my hair in the steamed mirror and pull it into a hair tie, still wet. Then grab my bracelets off the sink and walk back to my room while putting them back on.

In my room, I check my face in the mirror, with the hot weather lately, my cheeks have constantly been blushed, I just hope it's the humidity.

I step across my dirty clothes piles that I have separated by color, in piles, and jump into my bed. My feet push themselves under the covers and I roll onto my side.

Just like every morning, I wake up at sunrise, usually because the sun is in my eyes, but this time my window remains dark. I sit up and peer at the dark clouds.

Really? A storm is just now rolling in? Gracious, weather must really hate me. And if it stays warm, I wouldn't doubt the announcement of a tornado warning, and maybe even the competition being cancelled...

NOOOOO!

No competition is being cancelled unless I say so!

I rocket out of my bed and downstairs to our living room. The hard wood floors are cold from the stale night and the landscape lake-view window reveals large, puffy gray clouds lingering over the dark waters.

I snatch the remote of the arm of my dad's recliner and prepare to flip through the channels to the weather, but that doesn't take long since my dad has it already as the main channel.

"...some warm fronts coming in from the South, we could be looking at some serious storms. And for tomorrow, more storms and wavy waters. The storms are so thick, Morgan City is planning on moving the Annual Big Fish Competition to a few months from now, and maybe even considering a cancellation..."

My body feels heavy and I droop back into the recliner.

Of course I would get jinxed, and just when I could get Alyson and Parker together.

I turn my head and stare out the window; now the water in the lake is wavy and the clouds still hang over the town.

"Morning, beautiful." Dad comes in in his flannel pajamas and hands me steamy cup of tea.

I fake smile at him before I go to sip the drink, "Morning."

He smiles and watches out the window, "I'd say the wind is moving west and it should be clear tomorrow."

I laugh, "Dad, the weather is a disaster, but if you say so, I guess I have to believe it."

At school, I rush up to Alyson and we move inside together, huddling under her umbrella from the rain that now continues to pour.

"Only in Louisiana is there a season dedicated to hurricanes," I joke to my friend.

Alyson smiles and closes her umbrella once we are under the roof. "Sure, I could agree with that."

Down the hall, we spot Parker and I have to shove Alyson in his direction so she will actually go towards him. The only problem is that I shove her almost to hard, and she smacks into the locker beside him.

Her eyes glance back to me with and over excessive amount of hate. Oops.

I park myself on a bench nearby and pull out today's newspaper, pushing my sunglasses to rest on the bridge of my nose. Many eyes look at me confused when they see me, but soon carry on their normal activities; since when was wearing sunglasses in the rain, indoors, illegal?

"So, I got these outrageous tickets for a One Direction show tomorrow, but Zoey hates boy bands and refuses to go. Well, that and the fact that she has a competition..." Her eyes fall down and she shows her shy side.

Parker looks at her almost surprised, "Really? You want me to go with? They're pretty cool. Oh yeah, can I bring my sister too, she loves them."

Alyson doesn't even have to think to stare at him with disbelief; is this guy serious, or just crazy?

I can tell she is confused because he isn't inviting her, but I'm more confused why he likes One Direction? And he would really want to take his sister a date he was invited to go on?

"Um, actually...I, um..." Alyson freaks and her eyes pin into me.

I jump up off the bench and run up to her. Right away, Parker grows cunfused and he motions to me while I talk about me sunglasses.

"I actually lied about those tickets, Alyson, I took them, and I sold them to my dad." I say loudly and toss my hands toward the floor.

"You what?" Both say in unison, though Alyson just conuzzled and Parker disappointed.

"Yep! I got rid of them. So I guess you have to stay home alone tomorrow and watch That 70's Show reruns while eating your Ben & Jerry's and soaking in your hot tub for hours. You'll have to be alone for hours until I can get home and I will make sure to bring you a baby fish so you can keep it as a pet, to replace Bubbles who died two years ago and left you alone forever on earth!" I storm away, but my left wrist gets caught and I look back to see.

Two hands. One with a small diamond ring given to her from her mothers birthday, the other with a tan woven bracelt at the wrist. Both tan, and gripping tight onto me.

Alyson realizes what she did and lets go of me. So does Parker.

"I have to get to class." I say, and while I walks away, a smile can't help but to crawl across my face; and behind me I hear Parker make his invite to tomorrows competition, and my friend gasps and stays breathless, answering, "Yes."
