Chapter One

'Breathe in. Breathe out. In, and out.' These were the words Brianna constantly muttered in her head whilst she walked past the unfamiliar walls of her new school; now thinking about it, she really should have taken the offer of having a mentor, because, she was utterly and completely lost. 'Breathe in. Breathe out.'

Brianna was stood at a complete standstill and took another examination at the school's map that the receptionist had given her, "ok, so this building is called 176... And it says that homeroom is in room 341 in building 176, which should be right here!" However, all she was faced with was the end of the corridor. She was so close to having a breakdown on her first day of school, at the end of this corridor, with no one around; what a perfect start to a new life. Note the sarcasm.
"Are you lost?" a monotonous voice spoke from behind her. Brianna clenched her eyes shut in embarrassment; of course someone would catch her in her moment of stupidity.
"No, not lost. Just happen to be in the wrong place." Her voice was far too high pitched when she said that. Trying not to appear nervous was never her forté.
"Are you sure? You look clueless." He stated in a matter of a fact tone. "Also, being in the wrong place gives implications that you got lost and ended up not being where you should be. There's no point in denying something that is so obvious."
If she could curl up into a ball and sink into the ground right now, you could bet that she would. However, she decided to turn around and face the voice of her capturer; better now than later, and she had already made it awkward - what else could go wrong?

"Well yeah, ok, I am lost, it's my first day, I was merely looking for my homeroom and following the map exactly as it shows! How was I to know that it would lead to a dead end? I mean, what kind of school even has a dead end? I don't know where I am, so yeah, you're right. I am lost and I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown because this isn't fair and I shouldn't even be here!" So it was fair to say that Brianna wasn't on the verge of a mental breakdown, but as a matter of fact, within a mental breakdown; and she had avoided the awkwardness at all costs with this stranger and went straight into embarrassing herself. Fantastic move on her behalf.

He stood there smirking at this ebony haired, brown eyed girl; did she even realise that she had started ranting to a stranger? Not that Adam was complaining for she interested him - any other person would have taken a second look at his leather jacket, lip piercing and messy dark locks and ran in the opposite direction because of course, his whole attire spelt trouble. But, nonetheless, she had yet to notice or chose not to; all he knew was that he liked that. Plus, there was no denying that she wasn't attractive; he was guy with a guy hormones, things like that don't pass him by. So, he stood there, with his arms folded, listening to her rant, deciding when would be the best time to tell her that the map the careless receptionist had given her was in fact from the 19th century and truly would not help her in her predicament.

"...and here I am still not going to my class because I'm basically crying to some guy that I don't know and I've probably scared you and now you're going to go and tell your friends how you've met this crazy girl-"
"Right, first things first," Adam peered over towards the timetable that she was holding, "...Brianna; this map that our beloved receptionist has given you is very outdated and since the school has been refurbished about a thousand times since then, it really isn't going to be your friend. And by the looks of it, you have homeroom in the class opposite from me, and I have to go to mine, so follow me if you want, if you don't, I really don't care." As he finished his little speech, Adam turned on his heel and strode off - not realising that he actually did care whether she followed or not; not realising that those few moment that he has stood with her, he wanted to know her.

Brianna stood with her mouth slightly agape, watching the retreating back of this guy, whose name she was unaware of, and unconsciously wiped her mouth just in case she had made it evident that, that was the most attractive scene she had ever witnessed in her life. She continued watched him walk away from her in awe, until it clicked that actually, she had no choice but to follow him if she wanted to end up back in the school's civilisation.
"Well, here goes nothing..." she silently encouraged to herself, following the boy, who she had no idea would leave quite the imprint on her life in the nearby future.
