2 Years ago when Kathrine was 17...

"HA HA HA!" Kathrine laughed so hard that the apple juice she was drinking shot out of her nose.

"What! What's so funny that you have to get your juice boogers all over my car?" Mom teasesd

She didn't even bother to look at her mom. All she did was laugh and laugh at a panda sneezing.

"It's so classic! Do you want to see mom?" Kathrine asked, still giggling

"Honey you know I can't drive and look at a phone. Besides we're in New Hampshire! I could get a fine for just holding a phone!"

I pouted and looked at her with big eyes.

"Oh fine one second" She glanced over to the panda to see what the fuss was about. As she was watching the 3 second video Kathrine looked up from her face. All she saw was her drifting over from one lane to the next. The car behind was about to hit us!

"MOM! BEHIND US!" she screamed at the top of her lungs

"W-What?" She asked dazed. She looked behind us for a brief moment and collided with another truck in front of her. Then the car behind us collided with the back bumper. The ambulance came in a matter of minutes. The drivers in each car had a a few bones broken but were fine the next few months. Kathrine and her mom, Stacy had to go to the ER quickly or else they would die. Her last words before she fainted were,

"Save my daughter first"

The surgeon nodded and called in back up. Another surgeon arrived 10 minutes later and quickly worked on Stacy's rib cage and head. The other surgeons healed Kathrine in a matter of hours but of course leaving her some scars. Both of them rested on the uncomfortable hospital beds. Kathrine glanced over to her mom and then the monitor that tracked her heart beat. She cried. She cried so hard and knew that it was her fault that they were both there

"Mom I'm so sorry! I never knew this would happen"

Her tears dripped from her cheek to her white clothing. Stacy's eyes opened briefly, then closed. Kathrine also closed her eyes and prayed in her mind. In the middle of her prayer she heard a long BEEEEEEEP. She quickly opened her eyes and looked towards the monitor. The line was going flat.

"Mom!"

Kathrine tried to yell for help but her throat denied it. It was all scratched up and hurt every time she spoke. But she didn't care. She just wanted her mom to be safe, so she yelled as loud as she could. Eventually the nurses barged through the door.

"What's the mat-"

They glanced over to the monitor and screamed for doctors. The doctors finally burst through the door. They looked down at Stacy and carried her bride style to the surgical table. The surgeons did everything they could to save her, but were too late. She was gone. Kathrine cried over and over.

"Please save my mom! She's the only one I have left! Please!"

The nurses tried to comfort her but she pushed them away. Her father died by suicide when she was 3 and her brother died in her mother's stomach. Kathrine realized that no one was there for her. She was alone and by herself for the rest of her life.
