Hope POV

A loud rattling shook me awake.

I peeled my eyes open, expecting to see light, but all I saw was darkness. Horrible, terrifying black.

As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I took a look at my surroundings. Drinking it all in.

A rusty, metal cage that was somehow moving upwards.

Wooden boxes that had writing on it. I took a closer look.

W.I.C.K.E.D

"What the hell?" I muttered. What was W.I.C.K.E.D? And where the hell am I? Where am I going?

These thoughts race through my mind. I was itching to answer them. Itching to remember, but all I got was nothing.

I couldn't remember anything. Who I was. Where I was from. How I got into this cage.

Hope. A voice whispers into my head. Hope. It whispers again.

Suddenly, an ear-splitting blare sounded out. I jumped a half a foot in the air. It blared again. I started to hyperventilate, my breaths coming out in short gasps. My lungs constricted. Fear seeped through my stomach, cutting it like a knife. The sirens got louder, and louder, and louder. I almost stopped breathing. I started to scream out. My eyes swept everywhere. On top. On the bottom. On the sides. Trying to look for an escape. But there were none. I was trapped.

And then, as suddenly as it started, everything stopped. Silence was all I heard. The box stopped moving. I finally caught my breath. A sound of mechanical movement came from above me. I looked up to see two large slabs of stone, being moved apart by gears.

Once fully apart, everything was still, but only for a moment. Like lightning, faces started to appear. One after the other.

I slid myself into one of the farthest corners of the box, trying to hide. To somehow magically disappear, but it was useless. I couldn't disappear, even if I wanted to.

A figure jumped on top of the box, reaching down, and lifting the top off. I hid my face into my knees. I heard a thump, and the slow movement of cautious footsteps. They eventually stopped. I felt a hot breath on my head. The figure was right in front of me. Then, I distinctively heard talking.

"What do ya see, Newt?"

"Who is it?"

"Yeah, come on, Newt! Who's the new Greenie?"

Greenie? What the heck is a Greenie?

"Shut up, ya shanks!" That voice came from in front of me. "You're scaring her!"

"HER?!" I heard many voices say simultaneously. They were all deep. Boys voices. They were all boys.

"Yes, you shuck heads! Now be quiet!" The person in front of me shouted, once more. Shank?! Shuck Head?! What the hell?!

I hesitantly lifted my head, and found myself looking into warm, brown eyes. I tore my gaze away from his, and studied him. Assessing him. Seeing if he was dangerous or not. I scanned the rest of his face.

He had a square jaw. He was slightly skinny, but I could tell he also had muscle. He had a sharp nose. To my surprise, he smiled. He had slightly crooked teeth, but they made him look like.....well......him. Though his face was a bit intimidating, I could see that he meant no harm by the look in his eyes. He held his hand out. I shifted away, afraid and scared.

"Take it. I won't hurt you." He gestured to his hand. His voice was soothing. Like a smooth melody. I reluctantly took his hand and he pulled me up to my feet.
