Gaara sat, watching the young children play. They were all the same age of him, but nobody wanted to include him. This wasn't new, though. Sadly, this happened from the time that he was born and Gaara knew deep within his heart that things would never change. It was one of the many things that led him to be so cruel and violent towards others, even at such a young age. He had no friends, merely his sister and brother. Well, things changed one day. A girl named [Name] came up to him and offered the pale boy her [skin tone] hand with a smile on her visage.
"Go away," he said, monotone.
"Nuh," she shrugged, seizing the hand that laid at his side and dragged him towards a slide.
Gaara, for lack of a better term, was confused.
"Didn't you hear me?" Gaara asked angrily.
"I did," [Name] giggled, the sound of which made him blush.
"I will kill you," he glared at the back of her tiny head.
"We'll all die someday. If I happen to die trying to make friends, then that sounds like a nice way to go to me," she looked over her shoulder and flashed him a toothy grin.
On the contrary, his Sand Coffin wasn't nice at all.
"Release me," he tried again, allowing confusion into his voice and expression.
"After we get to the slide!"
It was some yards away, so he had awhile to go as her hostage. For some reason, though, he didn't mind the way that her tiny fist felt wrapped around his own small one. It felt... nice.
"Climb up the ladder first and then I'll follow behind you," [Name] ordered once they reached the red ladder.
"Why?"
"That way, I can catch you if you fall silly! I, [Full Name], shall have your back!" she gave him a thumbs up and a smile.
Gaara quite liked her smile.
Climbing up the metal stairs that comprised the ladder, he looked over his shoulder to verify if she was behind him. True to her word, she followed him closely and looked prepared to catch him should gravity launch an attack. Inwardly, he smiled. Outwardly, his expression had reverted back to morose. Once he made it to the top, he stared down at the slide. He didn't know what to do.
"Well, are you going down or what?" [Name] popped up behind him, giggling.
"Hn," he rolled his eyes.
"Sit on your butt and go down the slide silly," she caught on quick.
A few hours later and Gaara had mastered the feeble slide as well as the swing set, though he still had some trouble with the monkey bars. [Name] coached him through until he got them down as well, though.
And that's when her parents showed up, horrified to see [Name] so close to Gaara. However, before they could pull her away from the redhead, she told them flat out that he was her best friend and they were gonna get married one day. Naturally, her parents flipped out and Gaara was scared. Firstly, she mentioned marriage. There was also the fact that his friend's parents were trying to take her away from him, so he did what came naturally to him- he crushed them using his Sand Coffin jutsu.
That scared [Name] quite a bit, but she managed to keep her fear inside herself and calmed down the seething lad. Once he realised what he had done, Gaara for once felt bad. Something about spending the day with [Name] had made him into a completely different person. It terrified him, and his father wouldn't like it. Deciding whether or not if he should kill her as well, he felt his eyes widen as she leaned towards him and gingerly kissed his birthmark- the red "ai" kenji above his brow.
"It's okay, Gaara-kun," she hugged him tight and sighed.
Love.
That's why he was feeling so different.
He loved her.
She was the beauty and he was her beast, a true description to their outward appearances and their souls.
And just like the prince from the story, Gaara ended up being saved by his beautiful princess.
