When Sadness came to her senses, she found herself still by the pillow consisting of one Bing Bong. That being said, virtually all other details of what she awoke to confused her. Was the floor of the plot of land formerly known as Preschool World always this soft? And why was there a tent above the heads of the two?
The slight squirming that naturally followed waking up, however, also made the cotton candy pillow come to life and softly speak: "...huh? Is it morning already?"
Sadness only rolled over until her feet could reach the tent doors, then gently lifted them to reveal that, indeed, morning had begun to dawn on the Conscious Realm. "Yeah. I think... we survived the night."
"I'll just lay down for a few more, okay?" Bing Bong purred, turning over — something he didn't get to do while Sadness was sleeping on him, leaving him badly sore and definitely in need of a few more minutes, or even an hour.
"It's fine." Sadness, too, had trouble getting up, though due to different reasons. "We can lie down. That's the beauty of the world wanting nothing to do with you."
"As long as you're by my side... I'll always hold out hope."
"I wish I could do the same." Sadness glumly noted.
"Surely it's not that difficult?"
"Not to discourage you or anything, but you keep saying these things... that remind me of Joy's worst... I thought I could finally get a breather from her, but it seems not..."
"Oh. I'll stop, then. The last thing I wanna do is push you to do things you don't wanna do."
"Including the whole 'make Riley a little girl again' thing? Because I'm really not feeling that one." Sadness promptly asked, once she had the opportunity.
"We'll figure something out." Bing Bong spoke, rather angrily. "It's just not something you touch when you've barely woken up, okay?"
"Right." The conversation, as it went so far, did wonders in rejuvenating Sadness, and now, rather than lying down, she had enough energy to sit down and open her eyes — only to be greeted with the unfamiliar tent, once again.
She had never seen anything like it, either in Riley's mind or on the outside. With the blue and gray plaid pattern, it almost seemed tailor-made for Sadness. She asked: "By the way, did you put this tent up?"
"What? How could I have? I was too busy doing pillow things." It would seem Bing Bong didn't like it when Sadness was too curious, and even had some thoughts of his own regarding the tent's origin: "Also, it just looks like... it was made for you, or something... like it's all your... your thing..."
"Element of Imagination?" Sadness asked, wishing to see if that was the point Bing Bong made.
However, it would seem he was simply not up to speed with the mind's workings, and decided to instead play along with the individual words. "Yeah, that makes sense... you just imagine the tent is there, and it appears... just like you imagine, wherever you walk, that we have to have hustle and bustle and even advanced writing..."
"You mean... it's actually my work? I used my Imagination? In my sleep?"
"Makes just about as much sense as everything else in the mind, especially as of yesterday," was all Bing Bong had to say on that one. "I mean, not to point any fingers, but I also, you know, would expect Preschool World to be there, and would assume a dragon burned it down, if I wasn't there."
"Right, right, you can stop!" Sadness said. "So, it's my doing, huh? I wonder if I could make myself a bed, so I don't have to sleep on you again?"
"Please do... I'm still sore." Bing Bong replied, turning on his other side.
