"OH YEAH YEAH, OH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH"
And that was my cue to wake up.
I lazily roll around my bed, contorting my limbs in order to stretch them out. I didnt want to get out of bed, but who ever did?
I finally gain the energy to open my eyes (after, woops, sleeping for another ten minutes) and grab my phone. As i slide my screen open i notice the date: may 25, 2016.
And i literally jump out of bed because I was finally graduating from high school. This is the day all high school students look forward to; the moment they get their diplomas, shake the principal's hand and throw their caps into the air. It's the picture perfect moment. After all the suffering and entrapment, I was college bound. Oh yeah baby, University of Chicago here I come.
And thats not the only exciting thing, next week, exactly seven days after finishing high school, my parents are letting me fly to Chicago to see 5 seconds of summer with my best friend. Who knew life could be so good?
Now that graduation is fresh in my mind, I gain 100x more energy than I had thirty seconds earlier. I'm quick to turn on my Spotify because nothing bothers me more than silence. As Sam Smith's angelic voice fills my room, I continue on to make my bed. I read on BuzzFeed once that making your bed first thing in the morning makes you more productive, and me being the actual laziest person ever, I force myself to make my bed every morning."Knock knock," my mom sings as she pokes her head into my room. "You up yet?"
I look her straight in the eye, "No, I'm not up yet. Actually I'm sound asleep so please be a little more quiet."
"Ha ha ha. You're so funny I'm dying. You're too much like your dad," she replies, wrinkling her nose.
"That must be why you love me so very much!" I exclaim, shooting her my biggest and cheesiest smile. Then looking her straight in the eye again, "I am your favorite right?"
"Oh yes of course Ingrid, I much prefer you over your sisters; isn't that the motherly thing to do? Loving one child over the others?"
"Thanks mommy, I love you more than you can imagine." I walk over to her to give her a bear hug.
She takes this as an opportunity to say into my ear, "I can't believe my baby girl is graduating high school," leaning back to look me in the eye. "Honey your dad and I are so proud of you and I want you to know that, kay? We'll always be here for you no matter what. It feels just like yesterday I was dropping you off at kindergarten. Oh man, you cried so much that day, you refused to let go of my legs. You were such a baby!" my mom cackles as she laughs at her own joke. "Anyways," she continues as I jokingly glare at her, "You're such an amazing person today and I'm so proud I was able to raise such a great young lady. You're going to do so great in Chicago."
"Oh man, way to make a girl cry at 8:30 in the morning. You're the best mommy ever."
With one last hug, my mom goes to make breakfast, leaving me behind in a puddle of tears. Pulling myself together, I take a deep breath and start getting ready for the end of my high school career.
