The rocks underneath Ara's feet slid to the sides as she ran. He breathing heavy, and her backpack pounding against her back. The compound bow resting in her hand was yet to get bloodstained, but the arrows sitting in her quiver were surely bloody. One drop of that blood in her system and she'd be a goner.
" Almost there... " Ara breathed out. Her light blonde hair blew behind her as she ran the opposite direction of the wind's current. Her home base, or the campsite as she called it, was only another forest away. The only bad thing is that she only had one more water bottle, and her canteens were back at the base, so she'd need to preserve as much as she could.
" Mmmmmghhh.... " The grumbling of a walker faintly played behind Ara.
" Oh god. " She rolled her eyes and pulled out an arrow as fast as possible, loading it into the bow. She turned around and raised the bow, her index and middle finger on the string of the bow. She pulled the string back, releasing pressure on her arm. Looking through the aim, she directed the arrow's shot towards the walker. Then, in a split second, her fingers released the string and the arrow went flying.
Another head shot.
Ara ran in the direction of the zombie, bow in hand. Approaching it, she prepared her bow just incase the thing decided to move. Luckily, it was dead. Ara ripped the arrow out of the walker's head and sighed, wiping most of the blood off on the grass below her. Putting the arrow back in her quiver, she began walking down the path to her home base. The grumbling and growling of the walkers never seemed to bother her anymore, as she's been hearing it for 2 years.
In an hour or so, Ara's home base came into far-view. A grin creeped onto her face and and she drank a small bit of water, getting herself ready to run. She quickly closed the bottle and put it back where it was, already walking at a fast pace. She began running, slowly gaining speed. The strange thing was, there weren't any walkers.... anywhere. Those closer Ara got to home base, the more she thought she could see fire. Her pace sped up, as the heat increased.
" Don't tell me..... " Her eyes shrunk in horror as she approached her home base, which was now engulfed in flames.
" No..... not again.... " She slowly approached the flames, being careful to not set her items on fire.
" Wait..... NICK! "
