A/N: sorry it's been a while, i had a baby and moved out. After rereading only a tiny bit of what i wrote before i decided i will probably aim to go back and rewrite when done.
Across the next couple of weeks, neither mentioned the kiss; yet the memory clung to them like dried gum on a shoe. When Iwaizumi looked at him, he could taste the sweetness of Oikawa's lips. They didn't want to have to pretend that fireworks didn't explode in their chests every time they touch. They yearned to soak in the sparks, the fire, the security they felt; even if just for a fragment of time. Their thoughts lingered on the idea of melting into each-other; becoming one. Becoming whole. The only thing Iwaizumi wanted was Oikawa. He couldn't have him though. Knowing he was bisexual made it hurt more. it was as though he had a chance but he couldn't take it. It would only hurt him more if he got turned down, because Oikawa had the ability to like men, if he doesn't like him it's backed he's not good enough. Regardless, their friendship was too important. If they admitted their feelings and broke up, all would be lost.
A Saturday afternoon, Aoba Johsai had a practise match against Inarizaki. Oikawa's sets were incredible, but something was off. Everyone could feel the tension between the two co-captains. Oikawa set the ball 1cm too low. They lost the match 1-2.
1 Week later.
They were halfway through after-school training when an emergency weather report chimed on their phones.
"Can I stay at yours? If it lasts a while I don't want to be trapped at my house for days. They've been arguing more than normal lately and there's fuck all to eat." Iwaizumi was refering to his home situation where both his parents were too drunk and mad at each other to buy anything. It didn't help his mum was high all the time. He couldn't even speak to her. Her words were always slurred into each other, she would fall asleep midway through her sentence then get mad at him when he walked away. If he got the rare chance to understand her she was erratic. Screaming at him for the smallest things. On nights like that he found himself in Oikawa's guest room or with headphones blasting his favourite songs. He was more angry than sad. He did not want to be stuck there for days if the snow meant they couldn't leave.
"You know you can stay around mine whenever?"
"Squad sleepover?" Matsukawa smirked.
"Don't ever call it a sleepover again. And don't don't cockblock them" Hanamaki chimed making his way from the locker accross them. He murmured the last part to himself with a low chuckle. Oikawa hesitated but nodded his head in acceptance.
"Yeh sure. I'll let my mom know. Go home and get anything you need, they say to be prepared for a storm that might last a few days. Me and Iwaizumi will get food on the way back." He smilesd as he pulled out his phone. "Come in an hour and a half."
"Okay see you then." The boys skipped out the door.
"Practice is over early for today. Try to do drills inside at home if possible as it's important to keep up practice even in times like this. Practice will continue immediately as soon as school does. See you soon and stay safe." Coach yelled before sending the teenagers home. "Oi! Oikawa. Iwaizumi. Here." He waved them over sternly. Sweat dripped down their foreheads as the two men jogged over. "Oikawa, don't risk going outside just to train, Iwaizumi make sure to keep an eye on him. We won't go to nationals if our star setter gets injured again."
"Yes sir" they say in unison before running to their lockers. Oikawa messaged his mother to ask what food they needed.
———
"This should be enough right?" The two second guessed themselves. The living room table was covered with snacks, quick meals and drinks.
"Yes." Oikawa's mother smiled as she placed down the last packet of ramen on the table. "The storm is really beginning to pick up I hope those boys arrive soon." As if on queue the 2 men knocked on the door. "Perfect timing." Oikawa hopped to the door; greeting them with a warm smile.
