The next day, Alice woke up at 6 am. This was very unusual seeing as she was definitely not a morning person.
Alice went downstairs and made a bagel. She ate this over the course of thirty minutes. This was because she had finally come to the realization that she might actually not be accepted in the wizarding world. There probably wasn't a lot of people coming from what Professor McGonagall called 'Muggle' families.
Alice continued to ponder this thought until 8 o'clock. At this time, her parents had finally woken up and were no making their own breakfasts. Alice started to write down what she thought wizards and witches were like and what she knew about them based on what McGonagall had told her. Her list so far looked like this.
1. They carried random objects everywhere.
2. They were secretive.
3. Hogwarts was the school where people learned magic.
4. There were four houses (?) at Hogwarts.
5. I am what wizards call a Muggle-Born.
Alice was now stumped about what else she could write down. she looked at the clock beside her bed, it read 9:30. She quickly got dressed and brushed her teeth. Then, Alice ran down the stairs to go await the Professor's arrival.
About fifteen minutes later, another crack and knock was heard. This time, Alice took it upon herself to greet the professor.
She opened the door.
"Hello, Professor. please come in," Alice noticed that McGonagall had a different type of clothes on than she was wearing last night.
"Nonsense, Miss Barnes. If your parents could come we could be right on our way. Also remember to bring your letter,"
Alice ran back into the house to go get her parents.
"Mum, Dad. Professor McGonagall is here!" Alice shouted.
"Okay, we're ready, we're ready," said her mum. Alice's parents rushed out of the kitchen, while Alice ran into the living room to get her letter. The three of them walked towards the front door.
"Ahh, fantastic. Now, there is a main road connecting to your street. Yes?" all three of the Barnes nodded their heads," again, fantastic! We will call a muggle cab and drive to 97th street where the entrance to Diagon Alley is. Again, if you could do everyone a favor and not tell anyone about this."
The four of them walked to the end of their street and Mr. Barnes hailed a cab. The four of them squished into the suspiciously small cab.
"Where to?" said the old man driving the cab.
"The head of 97th street please."
..........................................................................
"Thank you, once again," Professor McGonagall said paying the cab driver.
"N' problem." he grunted.
The Barnes family started to walk behind McGonagall, for she was walking with a swell of purpose and pride that Alice was sure that she only got when sowing Muggle-Borns and their families to the wizarding world.
"Now, the entrance is through this little shop, The Leaky Cauldron," Professor McGonagall said motioning to a small building between a record shop and a book store, Alice was sure that she wouldn't have been able to see the store if it hadn't been pointed out to her."Because you don't posses magical powers, I'm sure you cant see the shop," her parents nodded,"So Alice, take your father's hand and and I will take yours, Mrs.Barnes, and let me show you the wizarding world!"
They all three did what the professor had said and were now in a shabby, small restaurant.
"I said that The Leaky Cauldron was famous for being the cross from the muggle to wizarding world, nothing else." McGonagall said under her breath. Alice laughed.
Right after Professor McGonagall had said that, they were again moving, this time towards the back of the shop.
"Alright, three up, two across," Professor McGonagall said taking out a what was apparently a wand. Alice was transfixed by the beauty of it, it wasn't like any 'magician wand' it was a long, intricate, and delicate piece of art.
Because Alice was so caught up in Professor McGonagall's wand, she didn't notice a large street appear in front of her.
"Welcome, to Diagon Alley," only then did Alice notice the large street in front off her. It was full of colorful shops and everything she could ever imagine. Only hearing the voice of her soon-to-be-teacher brought her back into reality.
"Miss Barnes, if you could please bring out your list," Professor McGonagall said. Alice brought out her list and re-read it out loud.
