I shuffled down the empty hallway, careless that I was supposed to be in class right now. Besides, Weight Lifting was just a blow off class anyway. No one really tried in that class ever since Coach Harrison died, well except for the football players of course. They have a memorial up in the weight cage of him. It’s just his picture and a plaque on the wall.

I walked by the Art room and caught a glimpse of Kassie through the window. I stopped and looked at her for a moment too long, because she looked up and saw me. She smiled and waved. I smiled and waved back. I looked at who was sitting next to her, Kadejia. Of course she’s sitting next to Kaddy.

I chuckled to myself and continued to roam the hallways some more. I passed the hallway with the graduating pictures down the wall. I stopped and walked down the hallway and looked at my favorite picture. I looked at the picture, the story unfolding in my mind.

The woman with the long brown hair kissed the blonde haired man. He let go of the sallow faced woman’s hand to kiss the brunette back. I could see the obvious passion the kiss contained, I could also see the apparent shock and hurt the other woman was. Something about the sallow faced woman reminded me of someone… but I decided not to dwell on the topic.

I wanted to know the whole story behind that kiss. Those two people just seemed to be so happy together, so… perfect for each other. I wondered whether they got married and had kids… and if they were still together. I wanted to know so badly.

But it was none of my business really; I just want to know if true love really exists. I don’t remember my mom and dad at all together, and my mom is so fickle with men I don’t even know anymore. I know she loved Cedric, but I don’t think she was in love with him.

I really don’t believe in love; well not until I met-

“Mr. Matthews!” Principal Marson said, breaking off my train of thought.

I looked at her; smokin’ hot as she was, she was downright mean. “Yes, Ma’am?” I wasn’t too worried… she loved me.

“What are you doing out in the hallways?” Her intense green eyes seared right through mine.

“I have Weight Lifting… and I was feeling a bit... emotional, if you will. Coach Harrison was like a father to me,” I said sarcastically.

Principal Marson crossed her arms and tightened her lips, obviously trying not to laugh, “Get back to class Bryan.”

“Yes Ma’am,” I grumbled.

She shook her head at me and walked away. I watched her walk down the hallway, confused as to why she would let me off with a warning. It didn’t matter anyway; I wasn’t going back to class.

As I rounded the corner I found Kassie admiring the picture as I had only minutes ago. I crept quietly up to her and quickly covered her mouth with my hand and locked my other arm around hers. I whispered into her ear, “Do not scream, whatever you do.”

Kassie turned and looked at me, her beautiful ice blue eyes widened in terror. Relief washed over her face when she realized it was me.

“Whatever are you doing out in the hallways, Kassie?” I whispered. When she didn’t answer I quickly realized that I hadn’t removed my hand from her mouth and that she was struggling to remove it to answer me. But I had been too late.

I felt something warm and wet on my hand.

I swiftly removed my hand from her mouth and shook it. She licked my hand. “That was gross!” I said, contradicting what I really was thinking.
