~Bryan~
Kassie left around nine, before my mom came home. I don’t know if Kassie doesn’t like her or what because she never sticks around to see my mom. That’s cool though, maybe Kassie senses that I really don’t like my mom….
I’ve met her mom; she’s a really nice lady. I met her dad briefly; I didn’t even talk to him. That’s okay too, but Kassie looks so much like her dad! I was surprised actually.
I wondered if Kassie got home safe, it was her day to drive today. She’s got this weird thing about driving to school, it’s cute but we have to switch on and off every week. Next week will be my week to drive.
Hmm… Kassie should have called me by now… she would have gotten home about ten minutes ago. I was about to call her when my cell phone rang. It was Kassie, I sighed with relief.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Bryan?” She asked shakily.
She had been crying, “What is it baby?”
Her response was more crying.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” I asked. “C’mon tell me, please?”
“C-c-c-an you-”
“Do you want me to come over?” I asked.
No response.
“Kassie, you can’t nod your head I can’t see you,” I said.
“Y-y-y-yes,” Kassie cried.
“I’ll be over in ten minutes okay?” I said. I hung up the phone just as Mom walked in.
“Hey,” She said.
“I’m taking off,” I mumbled.
“Where to?” Mom asked.
She’s so nosey, “To Kassie’s, she’s upset.”
“Oh, well… don’t be out past eleven,” Mom said.
I gave her a dirty look, “Mom, I’m eighteen. I can stay out as long as I want. You don’t control me, really.”
Mom sighed, “I don’t know what happened to you Bryan, you used to be so nice.”
“I grew up and found out how idiotic you are,” I spat. “And for the record I am a nice kid, just not to you.”
I snatched my keys off the counter and headed for the door.
“Why Bryan? What have I ever done to you?” Mom asked.
“Would you really like to know? Well. Let me tell you, you take me away to Eastbourne when I was a baby, not even two months after Dad died! You go to one silly convention, meet a British guy, and run away with him! I liked Eastbourne; I loved it there and then you take me away from all of my friends and the guy who posed as my father! I mean, he was never a father to me but I still loved him. And then after we get to this Godforsaken state, you sat around or you went to another convention to meet a guy, but you couldn’t meet one because you were pregnant with Lydia. And then you have Lydia, got a gym membership, worked out until you were thin again, and then you run off with another guy, and another, and another…. And when you came home? You said ‘hey’ to me and went straight to Lydia. I’m more of a parent to her than you ever were. So when I was fifteen I promised myself that when I turned eighteen, I would move back to Eastbourne. The only thing that’s holding me here is Kassie, Kassie and Lydia of course. So that’s what you’ve done to me, you are a terrible mom and you’ve been gone for a good three fourths of my life!” I shouted.
