Somi sat beside Lisa in their small, sunlit living room, watching Liam play quietly on the rug with his toys. The afternoon light fell softly across his face, and for a moment, everything felt... peaceful. Real peace.
It hadn't always been this way.
The past few years had been a storm.
Betrayal, secrets, and long-hidden truths had threatened to pull them apart. Jennie's sudden revelation of Gail, the cold shadow of Blake, the fragile tension in every encounter, they had survived it all. And now, finally, there was a sense of closure.
Lisa leaned back on the couch, eyes closed for a brief moment, exhaling slowly. Somi reached over, taking her hand in hers. "We made it," she said softly.
Lisa opened her eyes, a faint smile touching her lips. "Yeah. We did."
The day Jennie had finally agreed to sign the divorce papers had been surreal. There had been no drama, no bitterness, just a quiet acknowledgment of what had been and what could never be again. Jennie had met them at a neutral office, her posture calm, her expression composed. She had looked at Lisa, and for the first time in years, there was no accusation, no regret-filled pleading, just acceptance.
"I know this is the right thing," Jennie had said quietly as she handed over the signed documents. "For all of us. For Gail. For Liam. And... for you, Lisa. I'll always care about our children, but... it's over between us. I understand that now."
It had been enough.
Somi remembered the tightness in Lisa's chest, the flicker of old pain, and then the sense of release that followed. No more lies. No more shadows. Gail and Liam were safe, and Lisa could finally close that chapter of her life.
Now, months later, their home was filled with quiet happiness. Liam, once so cautious and wary of new routines, laughed freely again, safe in the knowledge that both his parents, Lisa and Somi, loved him fiercely.
Jennie had even begun spending time with Liam on her own, visiting him at school, attending parent-teacher meetings, and quietly building a friendship grounded in respect and understanding. Their relationship wasn't easy, but it was steady, honest, and supportive.
Somi watched as Lisa crouched beside Liam, helping him with a small model airplane. Ken crawled nearby, squealing happily as Lisa tickled his tiny feet. Somi's heart swelled, this was the family they had fought for, the life they had carved out of chaos.
A soft knock at the door pulled Somi's attention. Liam ran to answer it, and there stood Jennie, smiling faintly.
"Hey," she said quietly. "I just wanted to drop off some papers for Gail's pediatrician. Nothing big."
Lisa looked up from the floor, meeting Jennie's eyes. There was no heat, no tension, only a calm understanding.
Lisa nodded, her smile serene.
"Thanks, Jennie. I appreciate it."
Jennie nodded back, a flicker of gratitude in her gaze. "I... I'm glad we can do this for them. For the kids. That's what matters."
It was enough.
Later that evening, Somi and Lisa sat together on the porch, Ken asleep in the crib, Liam tucked into bed. The city lights twinkled in the distance, quiet and calm. Somi leaned against Lisa, resting her head on her shoulder.
"Can you believe it?" Somi murmured.
"All of this... we finally made it."
Lisa smiled faintly. "It wasn't easy. But we did. We're stronger now, stronger together."
