It was November in UA; the trees were rustling with the autumn breeze outside the windows. You were in the lounge area, alone since the majority of the class had gone with their families this weekend. The teachers had mentioned how the power was gonna be cut off so they could repair a generator. You had stayed up late doing an assignment and woke up this Saturday morning at 11 am, finally being able to rest up from the exhaustion. What you didn't remember though, was the time in which the power outage would happen, so that's how you found yourself in the dark watching your phone run out of juice. The no battery image flashed on the screen before it shut off completely. You had tried your laptop but no luck either since you had fallen asleep right after it died and didn't connect it to the outlet.

You sighed, "I could not have been less prepared, I don't even have candles." You heard feet coming down the stairs, there were very few options of who it could be, and judging by the weight you assumed it was Bakugo. He emerged from the stairway; earphones connected to his phone screen which lit up his face. You thought about how tame he looked. A few weeks ago, you would have done anything to avoid being in the same room as him without a buffer. Your personalities were just too strong to be left alone. He managed to piss you off almost immediately, whenever he stepped foot in your vicinity. Not anymore though, not after everything he had been through, everything you had all been through as a class in the first semester.

It wasn't even Christmas yet and you all had been through so many high-stress traumatizing incidents. Seeing how these situations affected everyone kind of made these rivalries just seem childish and pointless. At least to you, he still needed to realize you were over it. Maybe he found some sort of comfort in the routine of picking fights. All you knew was that you guys were just kids. Bakugo Katsuki was just a teenaged boy that no matter how strong he was, didn't deserve to go through all the events of this semester. You seemed to be the only one who didn't believe he was invincible. He was strong, dependable, and capable of insane things, but he was still just your age. And right now, as he walked to the kitchen without bothering to look up from his screen, he just proved your point.

You realized you were staring as his phone screen turned off and everything went dark. He cursed as you heard his set his phone down and open the cup cabinet. Your vision adjusted and you stood to go to the fridge. Opening it you saw him jump slightly as the light filled the room. You grabbed the iced tea and offered him some. He looked at you skeptically before accepting as you filled his glass and grabbed one for yourself.

"Why didn't you go home?" you asked.

"Why didn't you?" was his retort.

"touché" you responded and put away the iced tea. Leaning on the counter opposite him you sighed. "I guess I was just too tired to deal with my family's energy. I needed to finish Mic's assignment too." He hummed in response. You had gotten used to that. These past few days you had experienced moments of peace with Bakugo that were filled with very few words and a lot of hums.

"What were you watching?" you asked.

"Doesn't matter now" you saw him rub his nose. Must be allergies.

"Yeah, my phone died too." you waited, then continued

"Do you know when the lights coming back? Its only 5:30 and its already so dark-"

"Can you not." he cut you off and you froze up a bit. His snarky remark lacked aggression, he just sounded tired.

"Oh..." was all you could muster.

"Look," he sighed and rubbed a hand across his face, "I'm not really up for small talk right now, you're one of the few idiots I can tolerate in this place so don't make me hate you."

You smirked. It felt like an apology somehow, and he was making an effort to communicate instead of just leaving.

"Silence, go it." you said. He walked away from the counter and towards the couch. You saw his silhouette turn towards you.  "Are you just gonna keep standing there?" There it was again; he's making efforts to communicate. He's not directly asking for company but he's making it painfully obvious he doesn't want to be alone. You walked over to the couch and sat down and all but held your breath when he sat next to you. It was like befriending a wild animal, didn't wanna do anything to scare him away.

After a while of sitting in silence, he said, "wait here" and left. You didn't know what to expect but when you saw him walk in with a lit candle and a throw blanket, you wondered if this was the beginning of a friendship. He set the candle on the table on front of the couch.

"Don't think I didn't notice you're shivering." He said as he spread the blanket over the two of you. You didn't think you had been shivering, but if this was his excuse to have human contact than you'd take it. Every few minutes you guys would shift in the silence, adjusting to be more comfortable.

After what had seemed like an hour in silence, you were shoulder to shoulder, and your knees were touching. You had grabbed a throw pillow to hold, and he had leaned towards the couch arm. You don't really know how you had gone from overthinking every move you made to being comfortably sat next to him, but it didn't matter now. You were enjoying the silence with Bakugo, watching the candle burn and letting all your worries go. After a bit more he sat up and turned to you, slowly you turned your head to face him.

"If you tell anyone about this i will never speak to you again and will make your life a living hell." A snort escaped you, that comment was so out of place.

"Apart from the fact that I don't think anyone would believe me, it's no one's business how we get along." you turned toward the candle but could still feel him staring at you. You heard him exhale through his nose and out of the corner of your eye saw him turn to face forward.

"Thank you." he whispered so low you had almost missed it. You hummed in response.
