Your tired, aching body clicked a few times as you stretched out. You felt sore all over. Dirt and sweat coated your skin and you could even feel the grime under your fingernails. You wearily made your way towards the shower block, feet dragging along the ground in your fatigued state. It had been simply a day of training but Corporal Levi had been absolutely ruthless.
'Punishment for being awake after lights out?' you wondered to yourself as you gathered a towel and some wash supplies. Everything supplied was basic - basic soap, scentless shampoo... as long as you were clean, you did not care though.
After a lukewarm shower, you dried off and put on some pajamas, ready to head to your room. You wrapped your towel around the ends of your hair, squeezing it to draw out the excess water. Your slippers shuffled quietly along the floor as you made your way to your room. A small yawn left your lips. You felt that you may even be too tired to read tonight.
Just as you got to your room, you heard a loud and booming voice address you. You rolled your eyes slightly, your shoulders visibly drooping. All you wanted to do was go to bed. You spun around on your heels to see the owner of the voice - Commander Erwin - striding towards you. You gave a light salute at him before wrapping the towel around your shoulders.
"Yes, Commander?"
"Corporal Levi has requested that you go to his office."
He walked away as soon as his message was delivered, giving you no time for questions. Why did the Corporal want to see you? What had you done?
It had been a few days since he caught you reading after lights out but you had been a model cadet ever since. You trained hard, were on time for everything - if not early! - and you had made sure to go to bed on time. (Mostly on time. There was one night when you just had to finish the next chapter of your book; the heroine got her first kiss! You could not just stop reading.)
You sighed lightly, shuffling down the hall in the direction you had just come from. Within a couple of minutes, the large, wooden door of Corporal Levi Ackerman's office was in front of you. Dim light seeped out from the crack beneath the door, indicating that he was still busy and working. You brought a small hand up to lightly rap on the door.
"State your name," came the voice from inside, muffled by the door. He sounded like his usual emotionless self for sure, but he definitely sounded tired as well. It was no wonder - he had been working just as hard as you today, if not harder. You quietly gave your name through the door. After a couple of seconds, you heard wood scraping against wood, like he was standing up from his chair and a few slow footsteps. The door opened just enough for you to see his face. Dark circles marred the place under his eyes and he leaned against the door frame as if he needed it to support himself.
Upon seeing you, he stepped back so that he could open the door. He jerked his head back, motioning for you to come inside before stepping aside to allow you to do so. You sheepishly walked into his office which was dimly lit with a few candles that were scattered across his desk. The room was amazingly clean - no cobwebs, no dust. There was a huge bookshelf that lined the wall behind the Corporal's desk and each book stood neatly in line. You had never seen so many books in your life, nor did you know that Levi was a fan of reading.
"Sit," he grunted, his hand motioning towards the wooden chair that faced his desk. You swiftly did as you were told, placing your backside in the chair and your hands politely on your knees. Your fingers curled up to make fists in attempt to hide how much you were shaking. You hated to admit it but the Corporal scared you. He made you nervous. His voice would grind into your ears and switch someone on in your brain that made your body weak and shaky. You felt even more nervous knowing the hour. Corporal Levi was a busy man and would not have called you to his office so late unless it was important.
