I woke up and groaned, the sun pouring in through the windows. I glanced at the clock and then rubbed my eyes. Of course I had woken up two hours early. I closed my eyes, but immediately it was evident that sleep wouldn't come easily to me, so I decided to just get up.
I got dressed slowly and then I went down the hall to the bathroom to get cleaned up. As I was walking down the hall, I passed a boy coming from the bathroom. At first I didn't pay much attention, but then I caught him looking at me. It was just a glance, as if to see who I was, but I decided to be polite and smile back at him. That's when I realised just how beautiful he was.
I held my breath and smiled a genuine smile, but he just passed me by. I suddenly felt defeated, even though it was only my first try at friendship. I mean, I did just meet him- and I didn't even really meet him, so there would be more opportunities, I just had to wait patiently.
I washed my face and brushed my teeth, posing in the mirror to make sure my outfit looked alright. I was wearing skinny jeans and a band t-shirt with a zip-up jacket over it. I had originally tried a cute, whimsical and fashionable shirt while trying on outfits, but then I just settled on what I'd be comfortable in. The last time I went to a new school, I tried to look cute on the first day, but then n the second day I was a lot more comfortabl when I just went in my ormal clothes. I guess I feel more able to loosen up and be me; I'm more confident, which is odd but makes sense in a way.
Someone knocks on the door, so I scurry back down the hall and into my room. Zoe isn't in there anymore, and I don't remember having passed her in the hallway, so I guessed she went down to breakfast already, or maybe she had an early class or club meeting.
I sit on my bed and scroll around on my phone for awhile, and then I decide to get my things ready for today's classes. I grab my books and pencils and pile them up on my bed, inspecting them and then deciding that, if I forget anything, it's not the end of the world. Even though I just woke up, I'm already feeling exhausted.
Just as I am about to leave for breakfast, Zoe comes up to the room. She is, of course, wearing the cutest striped shirt and jeans, and her make-up is flawless, as always. I suddenly don't feel so comfortable in my shirt and jacket.
She smiles and me and says "hi," and then she touches up her lipstick and grabs her books and her phone. She checks her phone and then she says she has to go. Once again, alone in the room, I decide to change my outfit again, this time going a bit more fancy, but still a bit comfortable. I settle on my outfit and then walk down to the cafeteria with only a few minutes before class was to begin. How did I wake up so early and still end up so short on time? It didn't matter, anyway, as I was too nervous to eat much and I really didn't have anyone to chat with.
I ended up in the elevator with the same two guys from the previous day, and we still didn't make conversation.
The dining hall was starting to clear out, so I just grabbed a banana and filled a foam cup with hot chocolate. I had been planning on carrying it back to my room to eat, but seeing as I was short on time, I thought it was best just to finish my meal down here. I hadn't been here long, and I really wasn't in the mood to test their tardiness policy. Besides, if I was always eating alne in the room, how would I make new friends?
I set my stuff down at a small table in the back and then went to go get a stir for my drink. I had to push through a few people, but I finally reached the counter without knocking anything over.
Upon returning to my table, I noticed that someone else had begun sitting there, as well. Actually, two people were sitting there. I nervously approacked, ready to grab my stuff and move to a new table, but then I saw how friendly they were smiling at me and I felt rude even considering leaving them.
