"Hello?"
"Hey," He answered her questioning hello. He was lying in bed at 4:05 in the morning. They had done this since she left and they would continue to do so until she was back in his arms. "Did I ever tell you about the time the moon fell off the night sky and he went looking for her?"
"No..." her voice was like music, soft and light, laced with sleep. "...But, please, tell me about it."
"Well the moon was beautiful. To all who gazed upon her. But the one who thought she was the most beautiful was the night sky.
However one day the moon, who was always very forgetful and clumsy, fell right out of the night sky and ended up on our dark, strange home. She had turned into a beautiful young women and had landed in a small pond in the middle of a grove of trees. She tentatively drew one hand across the slivery surface. Her beauty was so bright, and seeing she was the moon, a soft halo of light was around her and cast light upon the water's surface. She had never seen any of this. The trees, the water, the air. She looked around thoughtfully.
Of course the night sky noticed the moons absentness. The soft glow that she cast wasn't lighting up his universe like she usually did. Even the stars were no match for her light. The night sky went looking for his beautiful moon.
He turned into a handsome wolf with the sky for fur and stars for eyes, and he started to scour the planets. His moon wasn't hiding on mars, wasn't chatting with some stars, or playing jump rope with Saturn's rings. Finally his bright eyes turned towards our home.
He looked in cities and towns, mountains and deserts, oceans and towering trees but he didn't find her. He slowly turned to leave and look somewhere else for his moon but a soft light caught his eye. It looked an awfully lot like his moon's soft, white light. It was coming from a small grove of trees. The night sky looked over there curiously. He slowly padded his way there where he finally found his moon.
She was still in the pond. The water was just past her knees but there were still fish in it. The fish swam around and around the giggling moon. Her silvery hair was around her shoulders in waves and her eyes were bright. The night sky thought she was even more beautiful in this dark world. He quietly walked over and stepped in the water. The moon looked up and smiled at the night sky. He curled around her and the moon threw her ....
".... Arms around the night sky. She was finally back with him where she belonged. The moon and the night sky back together once again," He finished softly. He heard her sigh tiredly and contentedly.
"I will see you soon. Then I can hear that story in your arms. Good night."
"Good night my love," he whispered back and heard the soft click when she hung up. He smiled wistfully and rolled over onto his side. Across the world she was pulling her blanket up higher and dreamed about the night sky and the moon happy once again.
