Chapter four,
Shawn's POV.

As I enter the school extra early, I wait for her to come in. Her long, dark brown, frizzy hair that reaches her lower back. Her beautiful brown eyes that stare back at you with a twinkle in them. Everything about her is right.
The way she talks, the way she smiles shyly when you talk to her, the way she trips over her own foot.

I wait for her to enter the school any second but she does not come. Right before the bell rings I get up and go straight to my class. Maybe she just forgot to set her alarm. She will come.

When I walk into the classroom everyone is already seated. I quickly sit down next to Carter, we've been friends since kindergarten and we still are. He is a little bit of a bully, you see, he is always bothering people. In class, during lunch, even after school. It's almost his job to bother people.

I'm not going to lie, I've always been by his side when he was bullying kids. But I have never touched anyone and I have never talked to any of his victims.

After the first three classes it's lunchtime so we sit down at one of the tables and Carter immediately starts talking to me.

"That new one, Lauren? She's so ugly." He starts and I don't respond. She isn't ugly, she is beyond perfect to me. I still wait for her to enter the school but I don't think that is going to happen.

"I really want to punch that Lauren kid, she acts all innocent because she is new but everyone hates her, already." Carter continues with talking trash about Lauren. I know I should be defending her but what if she doesn't even like me. It would be really weird for me to defend someone who does not want anything to do with me.

I saw the look on her face when we met for the first time. It was fear, anxiety. But somehow she managed to ask me for a place to get some food. She must've really needed it.

As the bell rings I stand up and go to my next class and glad fully Carter isn't in it. I hate it how he never stops about making kids feel worthless. It's like his drug, he needs it and he can't go without it.

The teacher starts the class and within one second I can feel the urge to sleep. I've always hated mathematics, even though I'm pretty good at it.
I'm not failing any classes and I'm very glad.

"Mr. Mendes?" I hear the teacher call out and I snap my head up.
"Do you have any idea where Lauren is?" He asks me and I shake my head no. I wish I knew and I really hope she's okay.

I know what you're thinking. Why do you care so much about her?
Well I don't know either. I just feel like I have to protect her.
Something about her says me that she really needs someone. The twinkle in her eyes wasn't filled with happiness. There was a lot of sadness in those eyes and I want to be able to help her.

The last bell rings and I quickly put my books in my bag so I can leave. I might walk past the basketball court to see if Lauren is there.

I walk out of the school and make my way home. I hope Lauren is there, I really want to get to know her. She is just so different in a good way. How she gets really nervous when we talk, it's adorable.

I look around while I walk home and when I get to the basketball court I get really nervous. What if she really  is there? I should definitely talk to her. As I look around I see her sitting on a bench behind the basketball court. A deep sigh leaves my mouth and relieve washes over me. I make my way to where she is sitting and I sit down next to her.
"Hey Lauren." I say to her and wait for a response. She's so beautiful, her sad eyes and pretty smile. Something about her is really special.
"Hey." she finally answers after what seems like forever. She doesn't seem to be happy and she sounds like she has been crying. It must be hard to be new in town, she seems to be going through a pretty rough time.

"Why weren't you at school? The teachers were asking me if I knew where you were."

She looks up at me in surprise and panic rushes over her face. I didn't tell the teachers one thing, even if I knew where she was, I'd cover for her.
"I didn't say anything, don't worry."
She gives me a thanking smile in return, which I really appreciate. Her smile is beautiful, I would look at it every second of the day and I wish I could.

"I didn't want to go."

So she's affraid to go to school, but why? Maybe because of bullies, I know there are a lot in our school. They should definitely do something about it but it's unstoppable and I think the school knows that.

Being new on a school is never fun so I could understand her fear. Especially at our school. Everybody has ther group of friends and it is hard to fit in, but I'm her friend now and she could definitely join our group of friends.

"Would you like to go to school together? I could help you out and bring you to class if you'd like." I say to her and mean it. She can't miss out on school that much, she literally just started here.

She looks at me with confusion and smiles at me. "Yes, please."

Just the way she smiles at me so gratefully for such an easy thing is adorable. It's great to see her smile.

"So here's my number." I say while grabbing her phone from her hand. "and you just text or call me when you want to so we can meet up before school." I finish while putting my
name and number in her contacts.

We both stand up awkwardly and I look down at Lauren while she stares at the ground. "I'll see you tomorrow then." I say to her and she slowly nods her head, as if she's unsure what to say.

She turns around and starts walking away and my thoughts immediately wonder off to her. She must live close to this place because today was the third time for me to see her around here. But where exactly does she live?
I'll find out later, getting her to trust me is what's important now and I hope I can win her trust.

I slowly walk back home and stumble through the snow. Tomorrow will be a good day and I'm going to help Lauren get through the day.

A sigh leaves my mouth as I step inside the house. I walk upstairs and quickly change before jumping into my bed.
Before I know it my eyes are closed and yet again my mind wanders off to Lauren.
