You thought your world had fallen apart when you were denied the job at your local radio station. You were devastated, at first, your devastation quickly turned to anger when you found out that instead of hiring an overqualified person like you, they hired an unqualified man. All of this led to you calling your grandmother.
Your grandmother, she could be your voice of reason when you were feeling like this, she could also be the kerosene to your fire. In this case, she was both. She talked you down enough to get you to calm down, but then she reignited your fire enough that you were currently driving across the state of Indiana to move in with her.
Turns out your mother called her before you did. Your mother told her about the disastrous interview where you were disrespected, belittled, and called 'sweetheart' by the slimy-looking man interviewing you. Your grandmother was furious for you, and that's when she and your mother concocted the plan to convince you to move in with her.
What convinced you was the radio station she told you about. She told you of Rockin' Robin and that had sealed the deal. You knew the odds of you being able to host your own show were slim, especially if Rockin' Robin already existed. Still, you had to try, even if you were an intern and got everyone coffee. Coffee runs at a radio station was better than not having a job at a radio station at all.
Turning back to your front door, you wave a final goodbye to your parents. You placed your map in your front seat and with the determination of a Nascar driver, you set out on the road to Hawkins, Indiana.
After several hours and even more pit stops to use the bathroom and call your parents to let them know you were safe and on track to make it there for Sunday dinner. You pull up in front of your grandparents house. They sat in rocking chairs on their front porch, your grandfather was nursing a beer and your grandmother was knitting. When they saw you get out of the car, they did their best to run towards you and you met them halfway, hugging them tightly and uttering words of gratitude to them.
They told you they had recruited their neighbor's son and his friends to help you move boxes into the basement, where you would be staying. The basement was like its own apartment. The only thing missing was a kitchen; it had a bathroom, a bedroom and a small sitting area with a closet where you could keep your other things. It even had its own entrance. After having the 4 boys help you load your stuff down the steps, you offered to pay them, but they refused, saying that your grandparents would be getting them pizza, and that would be payment enough.
After speaking with the boys over a pizza dinner, as they ate, the conversation drifted to all things about Hawkins, and that's when they mentioned knowing The Rockin' Robin and her sound guy. That intrigued you, especially since mentioning their connection might sweeten your resume if your own efforts didn't pan out.
Eventually, you bid your farewells to the boys you now know as; Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin. You made your bed in your new home and did your best to get some rest. You knew tomorrow morning would be the day that your life changed. You're being dramatic of course, but it is a big deal to you and the people you care about.
