Chapter 3

Acelyn

Ace just stared at the boy when he voiced his request. "Why would you want to touch my face?" She asked wearily.

"Think of it as my way of knowing what you look like." Kevin said calmly, swinging his to short legs into the couch. His legs made soft thumping sounds each time they hit the cushioned couch.

Ace thought about it for a second before giving in to the request. "Sure kid. I'm in your hideout anyways." She said taking one of his hands into her own and placing it on her forehead. She watched as he reached out with the other hand as well. 'What a weird kid.' She thought as he began to run his hands over her face like he was trying to memorise each laugh line, and scratch. 'Well fuh dumb ass that's because he is.' She closed her eyes when his fingers brushed over her eyebrows so that his long nails wouldn't poke out her eyes.

"Thank you." The kid said giving her a melt-your-heart-out smile that would warm the heart of even the coldest person.

"No problem kid." Ace said ruffling up his hair getting a giggle out of him as she did so. She looked over at the sound of someone approaching them. "Oh hey there princess." She drawled earning a scowl from the blonde. She ignore the look and instead focus her attention on the beauty in from of here. 'Damn!' She thought as she took in the dirty blonde figure in from of her. Leann's skin was pale beneath all the dirt and grime, and her light green eyes seemed to make everything around her light up. Her long legs looked almost disproportionate compared to the rest of her but she managed to pull it off even in grimy pants, and tank top. Her waist length hair framed her fragile looking body perfectly making Ace wonder if this girl's looks were real. She didn't see the girl'a roots sticking out like her own were starting to but she couldn't be sure yet.

"Hasn't anyone taught you that it's rude to stare?" Leann asked taking a seat between Kevin and Ace. Whether she did it on purpose or not Ace didn't know not did she particularly care either. Though she did start to care when Leann pressed a rag soaked in rubbing alcohol onto her wounded face.

"Fuck!" Ace hissed backing away from the rag immediately. "A little warning would of been nice." She growled.

"Oh quit being a baby. It only stings because its cleaning out the wound." Leann said rolling her eyes. "I'm pressing it back onto your face now." She warned.

She was a little more prepared this time, and managed to keep her displeasure unvoiced.

"Now I'm not a doctor so I can't do much more then clean the wound and dress it. You'll just have to let time heal the rest." Leann said pulling Ace's attention from the pain to her voice.

"I'm surprised your even doing this much for a stranger. What are you after?" Ace asked as a particular rough rub of the cloth made her cringe in pain. She was pretty sure it was done on purpose.

"I would of wanted the same done for Kevin and myself." Leann said simply, setting the bloody wrap on the couch next to her and picked up a piece of gauze that she had taken with her when she left the bathroom as well as the medical tape. Ace watched as she folded up the gauze into a square big enough to cover her wound. "Hold this against your cheek please." The blonde said pressing the gauze to Ace's left cheek.

"Sure thing princess." Ace said replacing Leann's hand with her own. She heard the sound of tape being ripped but didn't look away from the other girl's face. That is until something wriggled into her lap. She looked down at Kevin who had somehow found his way into her lap. 'Strange kid.' She thought as Leann moved her hand away and replaced it with the medical tape to keep the gauze in place.

"There. That should keep /to much/ from getting into the wound." The blonde said looking down at Kevin who had fallen asleep in Ace's lap. Ace couldn't tell how the girl felt about the boy being curled up in her lap but she said nothing so she just assumed that it was alright.

After carefully wrapping her arms around the kid she spoke to Leann quietly. "I'm gonna guess that the kid is really affectionate. A normal person wouldn't just curl up into some strangers lap especially after seeing what the world has come to." She said before realizing that she had said something wrong. "Wait I didn't mean it that way it's just..."

"I know what your saying. And I agree but Kevin is just a child. His sense of trust is open to just about everyone. Besides he has a good sense of judgement. You weren't the first person to have found us." Leann said her voice growing quiet.

"I'm sorry to hear that. What was their name?" Ace asked awkwardly trying to make conversation. /Probably not the best conversation to be having but I got nothing else./ She thought grimly.

"Her name was Claire. She was a girl about a year younger then me. We got along pretty well up until a few months ago when she had gotten bitten by a Crawler. We were forced to leave her behind." Leann said her voice void of emotion. "Good night." She said turning her head away from Ace and curled up onto the couch.

/Smooth Ace. Smooth. Your first civil encounter with anouther survivor and you go and fuck it up./ Ace thought rolling her eyes before resting her head on top of Kevin's. Maybe she could start over in the morning. "Good night Leann Carter." She yawned before shutting her eyes and drifting off like the other two had.
