The King started calling out the letters of the people who would be boarding Celaadrial. My brother and I, both G's, were the first of my family to be called, some while later Aryia was also called, her letter was F. By the time we were on the last letter to be called every part of my body was itching, my father still hadn't gotten called yet, my nerves were on high alert.

"The last letter to board the ship is," the King said hesitating for dramatic effect like it was some sort of prize to be won, "O." My heart dropped, my father was a C, he didn't make the cut. It was then that I saw my brother put the marker into my father's hand, that must have been what he meant earlier by 'having a full proof plan'. I stepped slightly in front of my father, making sure no one could see him change his letter, but I still couldn't seem to believe it was happening. For us telling untruths is very uncommon, most of us simply don't have the capacity to, and if we do we almost instantly admit the truth after. There have been very few untruthers in our history, we don't even have a proper name for it.

He had just finished altering his letter when I locked eyes with none other than the King, his face read suspicion and intrigue. If the King was looking at someone chances are they would look away scared, but I didn't back down and if I had to I would tell an untruth for my family. The King stalked over to us observing us, analyzing us, all without breaking our gaze. With every step he took my heart pounded, waiting for him to say something, to call us out, to kill us.

He didn't stop till he was a mere foot in front of us, his icy blue eyes still locked in a dead trance with mine. "Everything all set here? Is everyone going to be ready to board tomorrow?" He said, he knew, he was calling us out, seeing if we'd crack under the pressure. He wanted to see us fail, wanted to watch our suffering, it meant nothing to him, it was just a game to amuse himself with. A game of which I was not going to lose, "Everything is fine. All of us will be boarding tomorrow, bright and early." I told an untruth. The King smiled, it was crooked, curving up only on one side, and it welcomed trouble like a dear friend. "Excellent," he said clearly amused with how our game was going, "I will be looking forward to seeing more of you." And with that he turned on his heel and left, heading down a long unoccupied corridor. I let out a breath, we made it. We would live. For now at least.
