01• Noticing Her

Monday. The least best day of the week. I stand staring out my window at Katniss, her side braid resting softly against her shoulder.

"Blake! Blair!" Mom yells from downstairs and I rush down the stairs to beat my brother.

"Blair!" Blake yells angrily as he trips on the stairs.

"Live a little." I say cockily.

The door bell rings and I answer to see Katniss. "Blair-bear! I missed you this summer!"

"Guess what?!" I scream.

"What?" Katniss asks.

"I saw Peeta play against the Colts and he is amazing." I say dreamily.

"Who's Peeta?!" Blake yells.

"No one. Stupid overprotective brothers." I mutter.

"So?" Katniss pipes.

"So!" I exclaim.

"I'm excited because I haven't seen Gavin all summer." She says happily.

A honk sounds outside. "It's Rowan!"

"Let's go, Katy!" I call playfully using Katniss' nickname, which she hates.

"No! Don't call me Katy, B-Dawg!" Katniss retorts as we climb into Rowan's truck. Rowan has her fiery red hair in a braid running across her whole head.

"Sup?!" Rowan calls as I climb into the middle between her and Katniss.

"Nothing. What about you, Row?" Katniss asks.

"Nothing. Paige is coming to our sleepover." Rowan starts the engine. "Blair, I'm doing this for you."

"Thank you." I murmur. I suddenly feel a strange peace and realize I'm having a flashback.

I walked into my first period class. English. A girl with a braid looked at me as I sat down, her grey eyes narrowing. "Miss Everdeen, please give our new student a tour of her schedule." The teacher barked.

The girl stood up and gripped my arm hard. I'll have bruises, I thought as she dragged me outside. "Name?" The girl said.

I looked at her shyly. "Blair Evans." My voice was no more than a faint whisper.

"Blair Evans? Katniss Everdeen!" She says boldly.

"Nice to meet you." I said more loudly.

"Let's get this over with!" Katniss smiled and pulled out her phone and within seconds a pretty redhead showed up.

"Hi! I'm Rowan Stenfield!" The redhead piped up.

"Blair Evans." I said shyly.

Turns out these two were my best friends.

"Free period!!" Paige yells.

"Settle down." Katniss snaps.

"Settle down." A new voice says and Katniss squeals as Gavin, her boyfriend, sits down.

"Hey!" Katniss says.

"Hi, Gavin." I reply.

"Paige!" I turn around and see Peeta running towards his twin sister.

"What?!" Paige asks annoyed.

"We need to talk." Peeta says taking a seat next to Paige.

I look up at him and his blue eyes flick to mine for a second and he smiles. "Katniss, come on."

"I'm a coming." Katniss says still staring at Gavin.

"I'm coming!" Rowan starts to get up.

"Rowan-Alexundra!" Serena screams.

"Bye!" Paige yells to Serena.

"Row!" I yell and tackle Serena as she swings at Rowan. I take the punch and a sickening crack echoes around the lunch room as people stare at me.

"Blair!" Katniss yells as she jumps on a table and runs across to me.

Black spots dance across my vision as it all goes black.

-Katniss-

"Rowan! Go get the nurse! Paige, contact Lisa! Gavin, get Serena away! Peeta, you take Blair while I call 911!" I bark out orders as everyone gets what they need to get done.

"How do I carry her?" Peeta questions staring at Blair because of her unconscious body.

"I don't care but watch her leg! I think it's broken." I ramble.

"Will she be ok?" Rowan pants as she pulls out her phone.

"I don't know! But she was a deep gash from where her ankle got cut on the edge of the table!" I breathe out.

"She losing blood!" Paige screams into her phone.

Flashing lights flash outside the window as Peeta runs with Blair over his shoulder like a rag doll.

"Serena!" Gavin yells as Serena tries to hold her back.

"Let go!" Serena cries, hot, angry tears run down her face.

I suddenly feel tears run down my face as I think of Blair. The way her skin was a ghostly white scared me. "Katniss!"

I look up and see Peeta standing there. "What?"

"She's really close." He runs his fingers through his hair.

"NO!" I scream and push my way outside towards the ambulance. I climb in and sit down on the small bench.

"Blair!" I whisper holding onto her hand.

1 week later

-Blair-

Turns out I didn't break anything. Just a deep gash running from my ankle to my mid-shin.

"Katniss! Hey!" I call out as I limp into the lunch room.

"Blair!" Katniss yells and stands up and runs over to me.

"I missed you!" I say quietly.

"Rowan is sick and Paige is sitting with the dance team. Gavin has a appointment with the doctor and Peeta is over-" Katniss looks around points to where Peeta is sitting. "there."

"Cool." I nod curtly.

"Hey!" Someone plops down in the seat in front of me.

"Hi!" Katniss says.

"Hey, Blair!" I look up from my lunch only to stare in Peeta's blue eyes.

"Hi." I whisper shyly. I reach for my backpack and swiftly grab my book.

"Hello sis." I look from getting my book and see Blake.

"Hi brother." I say sternly.

"What's wrong?" Peeta asks.

"Nothing!" I snap as a sharp pain hits my gash.

"Ok then." Katniss states.

"Need......the.....nurse!" I say in between breaths as my eyes swell up with tears.

"On it!" Peeta yells and runs.

"C'mon!" Katniss says and runs me to the nurse. Peeta is even there.
