I examined the rose in my hands and wondered how it got there. I went downstairs and saw my older brother and his fiancee, who just happened to be my best friend.

"Hey Aiden." I greeted, "Hey Tia."

"'Sup, sis." said Aiden, messing up my hair.

"Okay, you really have to stop doing that." I said.

"He's so immature sometimes." said Tia.

"You know you love me." Aiden said, putting his arms around her.

"It's true." she replied and kissed him.

"Ah, engaged couples." I said, annoyed.

"So, where are you going?" he asked me.

I was just going to head down the beach." I replied.

"With a rose?" Tia asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"Who's it from?" she asked.

"No one...okay, bye!" I said and rushed out the door.

The sky was pretty cloudy today. My kind of weather. Don't get me wrong, I love the sunshine but someting about the grey days just gets to me.

I walked down the beach when I saw something staring at me, from behind the trees.

What if it was the guy from last night?

I ran towards him and he suddenly, disappeared.

"This guy's gonna make me work for it." I mummbled.

I turned around and---

"BOO!!"

Normally, that wouldn't scare anyone but he just popped out of no where. Our side of the beach was totally empty and I think I would've heard someone walk up to me.

I looked at the guy's face.

He observed me as I observed him. He was pretty pale but really cute. He smirked and licked his lips. I didn't realize it but I stared at his mouth. His lips looked so soft but cold.

"Are you the guy I saw last night?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"Maybe." he said, "I see you found my rose."

"This was in my room. How did you get it there?" I asked.

"I have my ways, Hayden." he said.

"How do you know my name?" I asked, "And who are you?"

"I go by the name, Emmit." he said.

I stared into his eyes. His eyes were so mysterious and for a moment, I thought they changed color.

Emmit lifted his hand and gently touched my cheek as if observing the texture of my skin. His hand was freezing almost as if the warm blood rushing through his veins had been drained from him. He moved his face closer to mine and I'm pretty sure he was smelling me. His hand travelled to my neck as he bit his lip.

"Could you please stop?" I asked, "I barely know you and you're sort of invading my person bubble."

He slowly pulled his hand away, "Sorry...it's just that...they were right."

"Who was right?" I asked, "About what?"

"Um, nothing. I have to go." he said, walking away quickly.

"Wait, Emmit!" I said, grabbing his arm.

He turned his face to me and I thought I heard him hiss. I also thought that his eyes turned red for a quick moment. I backed away, not really sure of what I just saw.

"Sorry." he said, softly.

He reached behind him and held out another one of those dark red roses. I was about to grab it when he dropped it. I bent down to pick it up and as soon as I looked up, he was gone. It's as if he just vanished.

I looked at the new rose in my hands and I smelt it. It smelled just like the first one. Then, I noticed it had a note attached to it.
