I held the note in my hands and I opened it slowly, wondering about it's contents.

I read over the words:

If you could live forever, what would you do? If you found out that you and your supposed true love were total opposites, what would you do? When darkness falls, secrets are left to be hidden. Watching from far away, sometimes you just can't keep away. A quarter 'til midnight symbolizes your fate. The rose petals lead to the special place. But be careful. The shadows are never what they seem to be.

Until then,

Emmit

It was so beautiful and so mysterious. But what did it all mean?

I walked back into the house, still staring at the note.

"Another rose?" Aiden asked.

"And a note." said Tia, taking the note out of my hands.

She read it and smirked, "Oooh, looks like someone has a boyfriend. Maybe a twisted one but a boyfriend, none-the-less."

"Okay, baby sis, who is this guy?" Aiden asked, crossing his arms.

"Aiden, chill out." I said, "And 'baby sis'? Come one, I'm not a little 'baby' anymore."

"Hayden, when we moved out of mom and dad's house, I told them that I would be responsible for you. I need to protect you." he said.

"In case you haven't noticed, there's nothing to protect me from." I said.

"So...are you going to meet him?" Tia asked.

"I don't know. I just met him today but probably not." I replied.

"Good. Besides, this guy sounds like a total psycho." Aiden said.

"Shut up." I snapped.

"Don't tell me to shut up." he said.

"I believe I just did." I said and went upstairs.

I walked into my room and sat down on my bed, holding the rose. I twirled it around, admiring it. Emmit kept coming into my mind and I couldn't stop thinking about him. Something about his face, his appearance and his simple presence.

I turned on my iPod and tried to drown out my thoughts with music. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I guess I drifted off to sleep along the way.

The next thing I know, I hear my alarm clock going off. I opened my eyes and glanced at the time.

It was a quarter 'til midnight.

"I definately did not set my alarm clock." I said to myself as I turned it off.

I stared at the rose and the note on my bed. Suddenly, I had an impulse. I ran to my closet and changed. I walked out of my room and as I headed downstairs, I could hear Tia and Aiden in the other room.

Shouldn't they be sleeping by now?

"Figures. Of course they're still awake." I said, annoyed.

I walked downstairs, not worrying if they heard me because I was pretty sure they wouldn't notice anyway. I slipped out the front door and made my way to the shore. I felt awkward standing there, not knowing where to go. Maybe I was wrong.

Maybe Emmit didn't want to meet up with me. Maybe the note was meant to be misleading. I was about to turn back when the wind blew against my face. I felt something soft touch my skin.

It was a rose petal.

I looked down at the sand and there were more rose petals, leading in a trail.

"What the---" I mummbled.

I started following the trail and it lead me to an area among the trees. I hope I don't get lost. I walked though and in front of me, was a lake. The rose petals lead across it. As the moon shone in the water, I stared at it's entrancing reflection. I stared across the pond and there was a waterfall. I had never been in this part of the area before.

There was no bridge.

There was another slight breeze and I thought I could hear a faint whisper, saying "swim".

Call me crazy but I listened to it. I got into the water and believe it or not, it wasn't too deep. It started out shallow but the highest it got was right above my chin.

I got to the waterfall and noticed a cave behind it.

"Woah..." I said, reaching the edge of the water. I got out and walked to the side of the falling water. There was a space and I went through it. I felt the urge to go in and this was some adventure for me.

I cautiously walked into the cave and looked around. "Hello? Anybody here?"

"You came." I heard someone behind me.

I turned around and was met by Emmit's gaze.

"Emmit." I said.

"You came." he said again.

"You said that already." I said.

"You're wet." he said.

"Well, yeah. Your meeting place really isn't the driest spot around."

He just kept staring at me.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked.

He didn't answer.

He walked to the side of the cave and picked something up...a towel.

He held it out to me, not saying a word.

"Thanks." I said, taking it from him.

I started wiping myself dry as Emmit continued to have his eyes glued on me.

I felt uncomfortable but part of me liked it.
