So here's the thing:
I have approximately fifteen minutes until I'm officially late for book club. And from my experiences, you wouldn't want your fellow book club members glaring at you and getting pissed because of that.
Because:
1) They'll end up blaming you for everything that goes terribly wrong.
2) Some are very dedicated to being punctual.
And I'm 99% sure that they will be pissed if I'm late because;
3) I'm the president.
So much for leading the group, right? But don't blame me.
Blame my eight-year-old little brother for stealing my laptop every half hour just so he can play on facebook. Every time I take it back and place it on my bed, he manages to snatch it again and hides around the house. So Adam did this snatching-and-hiding thing for two hours.
I was getting really tired from his little game that he probably thinks is 'family bonding'. I laughed at the thought because mom kept labelling everything we do together as family bonding. So this one time when Adam was being poop-trained he asked out loud, "Mom is this family bonding?"
So until now he still thinks stuff like this is 'family bonding'.
After the fourth time that I caught him, I sternly scolded him, but my so-called scolding was cut short because he was giving me his adorable pout that made me stop. So I settled on telling him that he should just ask for the laptop and that I'll let him play when I don't need it.
We're nine years apart so he was really special to me because I've wanted a little brother since I was 5.
"Thank you Alex, you're the best sister ever." he warmly said as he gave me his bone-crushing hug. And it was, literally bone-crushing. That kind of hug started from our dad, and since then, we always gave bone-crushing-and-won't-stop-'till -you-complain-hugs.
It was already 2:40 and I was in the starting to create excuses for being late when someone accidentally bumped my shoulder, therefore the books that I held, fell.
"Sorry." the guy, not far from my age, said whilst helping me pick up my books.
"No problem, and thanks" I replied after all my books was held by my right arm again.
Then our gazes met and at that moment I think I just saw the most resplendent green eyes ever.
And I also realized that he was about four inches taller than I. And my height 5'5". So judging by that fact, he is pretty tall.
And good-looking.
Wait, what?
After that I half-ran/half-jogged my way to school and luckily I was just three minutes late.
Right after I opened the creaking door of our book club room, two angry eyeballs met mine. And if looks could kill, I'd be in my grave right now.
"Look who's five minutes late everybody! Our very own president. I don't think that's a very good example, is it?" Fred, said.
"Oh hush up Fred, the vice president isn't even here yet" Jen, my all-time saviour and my best friend replied.
As I walked to my seat I whispered "Thanks" to Jen as she replied "Don't mention it."
"So where's Finn?" I asked out loud. I did not expect him to be late.
"Finn said that he'll be late because he was asked to meet the new student and to tour him around McKinley High." Kenji, our secretary answered.
"Oh. So are we going to wait for him or should we get started?"
"Nah. He reckons he'll be back at 4:30. We should get started." He said while reading Finn's excuse letter.
"Okay then. So here's the list of books I searched. Let's start guys!"
Here in book club, we don't just discuss about books, we assign books for students in McKinley High every month. And the English teachers need help in checking the essays; we're here to save their day.
In total, we have 24 members; 2 members assigned for each level. And Finn and I are appointed for grade 12 students this year. Even though we're merely in 11th grade.
I must say that it's an honour to be the president of a club here in McKinley High. Because McKinley only trust the best of the best. Now, others may be pressured, but I'm savouring every second because I love what I'm doing.
But I'm not saying that I love my fellow members.
We spend half of the time debating about the books that we should assign and the essays that are correct and wrong. And the fact that there are 24 of us, it is chaos. But, that does not happen every single time. Other times we're peaceful and in order. But when it's time for exams,
Nothing
Is
Normal.
After an hour and a half of ideas and opinions and debates, the others started leaving and I was left alone.
"Hey guys, what's-woah." Finn said as he noticed that I was the only one there.
"Hey yourself" I replied without taking my eyes off the papers.
"Why are you not finished yet?"
"Because I was working alone" I replied stoically.
"Oh, yeah, sorry for that."
"It's fine I'm almost done. I'm just not quite sure on what to assign first." I said while choosing from ten books.
"How 'bout Perks? It's quite fitting for their first book this year." He suggested when he saw the book titles.
"Uh, I guess, that's good enough."
"Yep. See, easy. Now let's eat!"
"Ugh you're such a guy."
"Says the girl who ate five Big Macs in one meal." He laughed.
See, Finn's my best friend who knows my deepest, darkest secrets and vice versa.
"I was really hungry that day! We played basketball for three hours straight!" I remarked defensively as I crossed my arms and gave my best death glare.
"Okay, okay, fine. Whatever. So where will we eat?" He said, obviously not affected with my death glare.
"I don't know, you choose-oh wait, let's eat at Burger King. And you'll pay."
"Deal. As long as you'll do my math homework." He smirked.
-And he hates math.
"What?! I'm not your little nerd."
"Well you are little...."
-And did I mention that he's really mean.
"I'm 5'5"! That's the average height for me." I yelled as I stood ramrod.
"Yeah right. Fine, no free burgers for you then."
-And he's very stubborn.
"Arg. Fine, I'll do your stupid homework." I surrendered.
"See now that's the Alex I know and love!" He announced gleefully. Then he messed up my hair. Again.
"Shut up and let's go!" I said as I slapped his arm away, laughing.
