Sherlock: You made it back to your room, right?
What do you think that that was all about?
Cheesebrain: I dunno
It went by so quickly that I had to wonder if my eyesight was working properly
Sherlock: Maybe Beatrix was signaling to Felix that she had to tell him abt smth once we were gone?
I can't think of anything else that it could have stood for . . .
Cheesebrain: You're prob right
Should we wait it out and keep a lookout for other signs?
Sherlock: Yeah, there's pretty much nothing else that we can do rn 🙁
Cheesebrain: 👍
Just then, Beatrix finally stopped arguing with Felix and closed the door as he left.
It was pretty awkward to be her roommate when I barely knew her; I could only imagine how dreadful it must be for Flynn. It didn't help that Beatrix had flipped our whole hotel room inside out with her makeup, hair accessories, clothes, and shoes. It was kind of an unfortunate miracle that she had managed to fit all of it inside one suitcase.
"Ugh, why is it so cold in here? Hey, call reception and tell them to turn the temperature up," Beatrix ordered, peeling the cucumber mask off of her face.
I closed A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (which I had been reading for the fourth time) and raised my eyebrows at her. "You want me to call them? I feel like the temperature's fine."
"Can't you see that I'm busy?" she said, gesturing to her extensive skincare collection. "I'm sure that you can afford to do a small favor for your roommate."
I resignedly rolled my eyes and dialed the reception's number on the telephone. Once I had requested that the temperature in our room be turned up, I went back to immersing myself in Pip Fitz-Amobi's endeavors.
When Beatrix finished up in the bathroom, she cracked open a bottle of apple juice and relaxed on the sofa. There was no kidding that she was drop-dead gorgeous, but it sucked that her personality was . . . the way that it was.
"Hey, Beatrix?" I called as a thought suddenly entered my mind. "Just wondering . . . what school did you attend before you transferred to Seaside Heights?"
She glanced up from inspecting her nails, giving me a skeptical look. "It's . . . a secret. Besides, that's not really relevant anymore, now that I'm here, right?"
"Right," I agreed gingerly, then pretended to focus on reading my book again. I recalled the time that I had asked Felix the same question, back in September. He had refused to tell me, too . . . but I guessed that I had been hoping that Beatrix would give me a different answer, since she usually wasn't on her guard as much as he was.
Why are both of them so determined to keep their old school unknown? I wondered, scratching my head. But judging from the fact that I saw Felix at the movie theater with a Sunshine City School guy that one time, that's probably where they previously attended. That was a pretty obvious sign . . .
Beatrix yawned and turned off the light on her side of the room, adjusting her silk-encased pillow. "Good night, roommate! Wake me up for breakfast in the morning."
I just shook my head as she daintily covered her eyes with a blue sleep mask and flew off to dreamland. It was going to be a while until I found the mental leisure to sleep . . . which meant that jet lag would probably make me super exhausted tomorrow. Not to mention that I was going to be forced to work with Felix Wainscott for the whole day.
