Chapter 1

Hey there, this is my first tigershifter novel and I just wanted to say I hope you enjoy this book :D

Tara's POV

I pushed my glasses further up my nose as I continued to walk up the stairs, the elevator was down, again, so I had no choice but the trudge up four flights of stairs, again.
My best friend Emily called me over to her apartment so we could stay up all night and she would be the first one to tell me happy birthday, it was a tradition we always did on every birthday, and in six short hours I'd be turning eighteen.
I wasn't nervous or excited about getting older, because I know that all too soon I'd be celebrating my fiftieth wedding anniversary if I ever get married, and getting wrinkled and grey, my birthday is just a day that everyone reminds me that I'm getting older constantly and repeatedly. The presents and cake I can handle, but I just cringe when they sing the part of the birthday song that says 'how old are you now?'.
I'm not a prude or a stuck up bitch, I ..I just don't know how to have fun.
You see, my family has always been made up of serious and successful people, so when I was growing up I didn't get to play games and go outside and roll in mud like other kids, I had to bring home my next A+ or I wouldn't get any chocolate pudding for desert...I know it's pathetic that my only taste of happiness was chocolate pudding.

"You know you could've just used the private elevator right?" Emily asked me as I stood in front of her door panting, " but that is for the managers and boss" I told her, " whatever, whatever" she sighed.
I followed her into the tiny apartment and dropped down on the couch, " soo, are we watching fast and furious seven or final destination?" I asked her as she brought the pop corn some blankets and sodas, I grabbed a blanket and took a hand full of the popcorn "neither, we are you watching frozen and that's final" she told me as she took the seat next to me and turned on the television, she then started the movie.
All throughout the movie our off-key singing filled the apartment, I cried when Anna jumped in front of elsa to save her and she turned to ice, Emily laughed and said " that's what you get for having horrible taste in men!".
I glared at her and she shrugged, I loved my best friend but I seriously worry about her sometimes.
We spent hour after hour, watching Disney movies, because Emily said it was to rekindle my youth, but my youth was depressing, but obviously hers weren't, I wouldn't even know about Disney channel if.it wasn't for her, she saved me from myself, from becoming another clone like the rest of my family.
Just as we were a about to watch, princess and the frog, her alarm went off. She turned to and smiled, " happy birthday!" She screamed, I cringed "uh huh thanks" I forced a smile, and thats when I felt it, a rush of adrenaline pumped through my veins and sped up my pulse, my eyes went blurry before they focused again, I shook head, that was weird.
