Sudden pops combined with the sound of glass breaking made darkness fill the room. I let out a small scream for the sudden sound. Ross wrapped his arms around me, protecting my head with his body from the shards of glass falling from the ceiling. My heart skipped a beat as his arms rapped themselves around me. After the shards from the broken light bulbs had fallen, when darkness had filled every inch of the room, Ross let go of me. I stayed stiff for a couple of seconds, stunned by his reaction. Relax Katy, relax.

We didn't say anything for a moment but then Ross spoke up. "Umm Katy?"

"Yeah"

"You're standing on my foot"

"Sorry" I said slightly laughing as I removed it. "What happened with the lihgt bulbs?" I added as I blinked to get my sight used to the darkness.

Ross let out a small grunt of irritation. "I have a bad feeling this is Jimmy's fault."

I stayed silent trying to figure out why his little brother would do such a thing while we were in the basement. More importantly, how could he have done such a thing?

"Let me just try to..." He started saying but was interrupted by a loud bang of metal.

"What did you do now?" I wined as I moved my hands around trying to find him.

"Stupid bird" he mumbled.

"Bird?" I asked moving slowly, still waving my hands around so I wouldn't bump into something.

"Yeah. I just tripped with a metal bird my mom bought to decorate the garden a long time ago. She never even used it."

I laughed "Well then you have to be more careful." Just then I found something with my hands, I tried to figure out what it was but failed to identify it only by tact.

"That's my face Katy"

"Ohh...sorry again" This time I felt my face burning up. I was blushing.

"Do you have your cellphone with you?"

I nodded, then I remembered he couldn't see me. "Yes."

I got it out of my back pocket and unlocked the screen. 1970, my mothers year of birth. Then I opened the camara, changed it to video and activated the flash. Yes my cellphone does not have a flashlight. Don't judge it. The light iluminated the floor, I moved the cellphone around my feet to see if there was anything I could bump into or trip with. The closest thing was indeed a blue and white metal bird scattered on the floor. After that I moved  my cellphone upward to see Ross.

His glasses reflected the light for a moment, then I could see his green eyes squinting as a result of the sudden brightness. I'd grown so familiar with that face. We had been friends since we were 15. Now I could say he was one of the people I trusted the most. The problem began when I started liking him. He probably saw me only as a friend... and that is how I acted. Nothing less, nothing more. Just friends.

I mean he doesn't know I like him, I don't act like I do. I don't understand why some girls are so obvious. I just like him. That isn't a big deal. The world doesn't need to know that.

He wasn't Mr. great looks or annything but I still found him quite attractive. Of course, like I said, he doesn't know that so don't tell him. His short brown hair seemed a couple of shades darker with the dim light of my cellphone.

"Can I borrow it for a second?" he asked me pointing at my cellphone.

I snapped out of my thoughts and handed him the device. He used it to walk to the stairs, that led to the door, without tripping with something else. I followed him. When we reached the door he tried oppening it with no good results.
