I was an average girl. I had average gray-blue eyes, average pale skin, an average height of five-foot-three, with an average personality and an average life altogether. That all changed, of course we never saw it coming but it still happened. No one in a thousand years would have seen it. My mom and I were out walking, I was still little, and we had found a puppy behind a dumpster. This wasn’t uncommon, it happened all the time in the city of New York. We just picked her up, and took her home. We got my dad to allow us to keep her, I was so happy; if I would have seen this coming, I would have thrown her out in a heartbeat.

After a while we moved out of New York, and into a small town in Montana, called Ashland.

When we moved, we took the puppy along. She grew up with me, and we became unrepeatable. She grew to be very big and an assortment of brown and tan fur, with bright blue eyes. She was a sweetheart, and I trusted her with everything, but then, it happened. It was a few weeks before my fifteenth birthday, and I was walking through the kitchen, I patted her head and went to the refrigerator to grab a bottle of water. She looked at me, "Pretty hot in July huh girl?" Then, she let out a low growl, which I almost didn’t pick up. I got down on my knees and looked at her questionably, reaching my hand out to smooth her fur, she lunged and sank her teeth into my forearm. Screaming I tried to pull away from her, my parents came running in, yanking the dog off me, and throwing her outside, she barked and leapt at the glass door many times. I sat, hyperventilating on the kitchen floor, holding my arm for dear life. My mom scooped me up and dashed out to the car, she drove like a mad women to the hospital and brought me in, I could see her screaming at the women behind the desk, but I didn’t hear what she said. I felt as though I was ready for a long nap, I knew I wasn’t going to be sleeping tonight though. I was right.

It wouldn’t have been that big of a deal that she bit me, only the fact that I was now bleeding uncontrollably from my forearm, and the fact that bad things were going to happen.

Because my dog, she was infected.
