It’s not you, it’s me. Perfect, just perfect. How could I not see this coming? Of course that slut had been cheating on me, why not? It’s not like I had trusted her with my secrets and had told her everything. Could this day get any worse?
That’s when Cedric Wood felt the first few drops of the approaching storm. He was only wearing a tee-shirt and cargo shorts. It was the beginning of summer; any other apparel was too warm, even with the increasing winds. Where does he go from here? His now ex-girlfriend had taken the roses he brought and kicked him out of her apartment. Of course she would keep the flowers, no doubt to show her friends and say they were from her new lover.
His worn out shoes led him through the deserted side streets of Boston. No one wanted to get stuck in the rain, which was now coming down harder, soaking through his shirt. He started to wish he had brought an umbrella or even a rain coat. He had known it was going to rain, but he hadn’t counted on being dumped. Of course he hadn’t loved her; she was superficial and was only with him for his looks. He was just annoyed that she had dumped him before he could dump her.
Cedric was not accustomed to be the one being left, he usually did the leaving. His brown, curly hair and baby blue eyes allowed him that. He wasn’t a player; he just never met the right girl. They were too quiet or too loud, too tall or too short, too attached, or like his last girlfriend, too open. None the less he would get over it and be back out in the dating world in no time. He just needed to get out of this rain and he was left with his feet as his transportation.
He looked ahead and saw the alley he was in coming to an end, opening into a street. He kept his eyes locked on the approaching road for a moment then started to quicken his pace, wanting nothing more than to be back in bed. He left the alley and took a left, heading toward his house which was just 4 blocks away. He took another turn, this time taking a right, deciding to cut through the park. This decision was based on his hope that he could make it through the park under the cover of the trees. Passing a coy pond he almost had to do a double take.
What beautiful creature would be stuck in the rain? He definitely did a double take when he saw she was enjoying the rain, she was embracing the cold rain that was soaking through her lovely pink summer dress. She had unruly brown hair that was pinned to her head, although there were stray pieces that, because of the rain, clung to her neck and face.
She was beautiful.
He didn’t notice he had even stopped before she saw him and she too stopped for a moment. His blue eyes locked onto hers. She was too far away to distinguish what color her eyes were but he could tell just how beautiful she was. He was confused when she began to walk again, until he realized she was probably startled that someone had seen her enjoying the rain alone.
He began to continue on his way home, walking a little faster seeing that the rain had become a steady downpour.
When he finally made it to his apartment, he was too annoyed and tired to even bother turning on the light or showering. He just pulled off his water logged clothes and fell into his waiting bed and pulled his gray duvet over his head, in order to properly hide from the world, even if it was only for a little while.
