Macy could tell a storm was rolling in, just by how to clouds look overhead as she looked out of the window during Geography. In all honesty, she was more than a little bit disappointed on her walk to school that morning when she realized it hadn't already rained.
Ever since Michael had brought donuts to her house, she had been thinking about everything that happened in the span of a couple hours. From the garden to Luke and his darn dog to her conversation with Ashton. Macy wasn't sure how to categorize everything in her head.
The best part about everything was definitely the donuts, although she had to listen to Michael's countless apologies and reasoning why he hadn't shown up to the library. Macy didn't really care, in all honesty, because if he had shown up, things would be different.
The sound of the bell brought Macy back to the present as she realized that there were new notes on the board that she hadn't copied yet. She quickly wrote those down as everyone left the room.
When she finally gathered her items and stepped out, she almost didn't see the boy leaning on the lockers across from the classroom door. Almost.
"Macy." Ashton said, looking slightly surprised to see her.
Macy was caught off guard that he was speaking to her. She thought she imagined it. So instead of smiling with all the confidence in the world and smoothly walking up to him, like she'd imagined doing so many times in her head, she quickly turned to her right and started speed walking down the hallway towards her locker.
"Macy!" Ashton said, trying to catch up to her.
"That's my name, don't wear it out." Macy said as Ashton was now walking right next to her. She slowed her pace, finally realizing that he wasn't simply calling her name as a reflex to seeing her walk out of the classroom.
"I wanted to ask you something." Ashton said, grabbing one of his backpack straps. Normally, he would be heading to the field right now, but coach told the team that they should just go to lunch, considering the dark clouds rolling in.
Macy was slightly scared about what Ashton could possibly want from her. This was only their 3rd conversation in over two years and she wasn't exactly the best person to call in for favors.
"I can't promise I'll have the answer."
"Oh, okay. Well It's more like a hypothetical situation. Kinda." Ashton said, trying to figure out how to phrase this as simple as possible.
"Shoot." Macy said, finally reaching her locker. While she put in her combination, Ashton leaned on the one next to hers.
"So the team has the rivalry game coming up on Monday, next week. As a tradition, the boys and I are supposed to find someone to stand on the field before the game and give us flowers when our name is called."
As Ashton paused, Macy was really glad that the locker door was covering her face because she could feel her smile spreading.
Macy was very familiar with this tradition because she had seen it happen for years, and before that, she had heard about countless occurrences when girls, and a couple guys, she knew were chosen to stand on the field before the game.
"So, I think I know who I want to invite," Ashton continued, not sure how Macy was feeling about this. "Now this is where you come in. Hypothetically..."
Macy breathed a deep sigh and grabbed her Geology and Math books before closing her locker door.
"Hypothetically." She repeated as she looked at Ashton.
"Hypothetically, if I were to ask this person to be my Flower guest, would they hypothetically say yes?" He said, raising an eyebrow, slightly.
"Well, I guess it depends on the person." She said turning to walk towards the cafeteria.
