"You know, you should call me sempai."
"What?" As promised, Haru treated her lunch at the cafeteria. They ordered deep fried tempura, Luis' favorite and because Haru felt a little bit nostalgic.
"What's 'sempai'?" Luis asked.
"A honorific for someone older than you. I'm older than you and I'm a half Japanese"
She flaunted her fork to him. "I'm not a Japanese and I don't care." She said with a mocking face.
"I just miss japan and other stuff can't you just humor me once?"
"Why me? Why can't Sid do that for you or even Luke or the old lady in the cafeteria?" she stood up and gathered her things.
"Because... you know.. you're small and you're a midget." He whispered.
"SAY WHAT? SAY THAT AGAIN?"
"Sorry." He apologized with a chuckle
"You better be, I have an average height." He raised his eyebrows.
"Oh. What's an average height then?" he said smugly.
"Shut up." She checked her watch and saw she still has 3 hours left for her next class. She thought of places to hang for a while. Library? Nah. Too crowded. Club room? Nah too messy. With haru? Nah too stupid. She thought. She walked slowly and decided she should explore the campus, get lost even. She liked to walk and in this old city she might find an abandoned mansion in every street.
"Bye haru sempai." She said without looking back at him.
She started with the main street. The people in this ancient place are quite demure. She thought as she observed a passerby walking gracefully. She continued to walk looking for alleys that looked closed or parks that looked like a forest. She always had this wanderlust ever since she's a little kid. She unconsciously wandered through forest and accidentally met bears, dears, and cliffs. Searching for abandoned mansions and gardens was especially exhilarating for her; seeing old things being haunted by the memories of their past owner gives her delight. It was as if she's seeing first hand their history. The scratches in the drawers; maybe a cat or a child's mark. The wild roses in the backyard maybe once a tamed plant but grew fangs to protect itself. Her gut knew that she'll find something worth keeping today. A secret base in this strange town.
Haru was feeling giddy today even though he felt sleep depravity is seeping unto him. He was praised. It doesn't matter how many people praised his works. He never got used to hearing compliments on his works. He feels embarrass but it makes him feel so jubilant. He was never self-conscious but women fawn at him. To a stranger's eyes he was this cold raven haired lad who had cold green eyes that can immediately make you feel intimidated, he was pale and so, some of his monikers involves him being a vampire especially since he doesn't talk much. But the club members knew very well he's a dork. (Luis thought.) He has this strange affinity to people whose blunt, wild and weird in short the Medici art club is a brilliant camp for him. What others never knew is that the reason he avoid conversation with strangers is because he have a bad case of embarrassment whenever he talks to them. In short he's a dork (Luis again thought of it.).
-------------------------------------------
Afternoon came and she missed her class, she then decide to head straight to the club room to hang with Luke and Sid or with other members, but all she found was a sleeping Haru in their shared desk. He looked so at peace, I hope he never wakes up. She thought. She sat in the opposite chair to him and began to sketch him. She started with his messy hair then to his eyes, she was specifically careful not to ruin them or anything. His lips was a little hard for her but the one she enjoyed mostly was his hands. It was beautifully slim and white. When she looked at him again to add his other details he was already staring at her. Shit. She thought grimly.
"You..." he started
"NO" she slammed the table. "I wasn't urgh. Please die. Already." Haru laughed.
"Relax dammit. I was just gonna ask if you never painted. I always saw you sketch but never paint. You look like you know how to."
She sat down again and sighed. "No, I don't anymore sorry."
"Anymore?" he asked.
"Yep. Now if you could sleep again and bring me back my peace that would be wonderful."
Her eyes widen as she was suddenly dragged to the gallery of the university.
"Pick any painting you feel attracted to or whatever then I'll explain why that painting is amazing."
She sighed and looked at him. Undeterred, he motioned her to start picking. She walked slowly to painting of the woman who was looking at the sky.
"I like this, this is the reason why I even transferred here at the first place."
He looked startled. He averted her eyes and scratch his neck. "Oh." He said.
She let out a little smile at him. "And I forgot to tell you, I'm color blind."
