Time to him seemed to stop
as he watched his best friend go down
he watched as the bullet rip threw his friend's chest
everything was momentarily forgotten

He left his cover despite the
yells from his many comrades
bullets sprayed over his head
peppering the wall behind him

His heart was pounding, praying
that he'll be all right
more bullets kicked up dust at his feet
he only has one thing on his mind

Finally reaching his fallen friend
he pulled his friend behind the wall
frantically shaking him till he responds
his friend coughed then breathes his last breath

To him the risk was worth it
getting shot at just so his friend didn't die alone
he wipes the blood off his hands
and then wiped the tears from his eyes

He closes his fallen friend's eyes
and wipes the dirt and blood from his face
he then says goodbye and gets up
leaving his friend forever
