My breathing continued to falter, and I was choking on my own words. Eliza continued to stare into my eyes, as if looking to see if I was still there. I wanted to call out for her, tell her to run before she saw anything worse.
Too late. My captor followed my pleading eyes to the partially closed door behind him. He turned, and grinned at the shadow of my best friend.
"Ah, I see you've brought me a friend," he said, his voice taunting. I finally found my ability to speak once again, and I screamed out for him to leave her alone.
"I want nothing with her," he gestured to her once again, she still hadn't moved. He stepped closer to me, and Eliza ran forward. He expected such a thing, and kicked the door shut with his foot.
"No, no, no. Mind your own business dear," He grabbed my ankle and pulled it, dragging me to the opposite corner of the room. Things were beginning to blur together, and I gave up all efforts to fight him. He opened a clear box, and ushered me inside. It was large, and I was able to stand up in it. Then, the water came. It started running down the sides, and soon, it was up past my knees.
"No," I breathed. I was panicking, I was facing my biggest fear head on. I couldn't drown. I wouldn't.
I began to beat on the glass, and the figure on the outside was staring at me, head tilted, as if trying to make a decision.
"Please," I mouthed. The water was cold, and rising quickly. It was up to my hips. The figure smiled, happy to see me finally beg.
"Dear, you mustn't fight it"
Then the door opened. Eliza came up behind the man, and he had not noticed. I tried to continue to plead with him, silently begging him to not turn around.
Eliza smiled at me, and I smiled back. Big mistake.
The man turned around, and stabbed a syringe into her neck. She crumbled to the floor automatically, and he dragged her to the other box.
"Your choice," He said, shoving her into the box. He opened a small piece of the box I was in, and handed me a key.
I frantically looked around for the key hole, and I noticed it. It was at the bottom of the box. The water rose to above my neck, and I was beginning to float. I took a giant breath of air, and dove under.
I swam to the bottom, regretting never learning to hold my breath for longer.
I fumbled with putting the key into the lock, and finally, It turned.
All the water began to drain, and I quickly swam to the top to regain my breath. I looked over at the box Eliza was in, and I wished I hadn't.
All of the water that had began to empty out of my tank was being placed into hers, and she lay unconscious on the floor of the box.
The man opened my box, and grabbed me out of it, placing my soaking wet figure onto the marble floor. I began to cough violently, just noticing how much air I was lacking.
"I told you, it was your choice," He said, gesturing to my friend at the bottom of the tank. Her entire body was surrounded in water, and I knew there was no possible way to save her.
She was gone.
The color already starting to drain out of her face.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, placing my hand against the glass.
The man pulled me onto my feet. "Stop crying. You did it."
Right in that moment, I felt the most rage I had ever felt in my entire life. I began to kick and claw with all the strength I had in me, and for a second, the man had no clue what to do.
He didn't expect the reaction I gave him, and I continued to kick. He went down, and I began to try to run to the exit. In that moment, I could have sworn I saw a white light coming from the door.
The man tripped me, and I fell, hearing a deafening crack come from my knee. I screamed out in pain, and he took this small opportunity to come behind me with a medicated rag, and knock me out.
"Hello Kaye," A voice said. I blinked a few times, darkness still surrounding me.
"Where am I?" I said, trying to shake my head, I couldn't move. It was like my entire body was numb.
"Your dreams."
I let out a sour laugh, "No I'm not."
"I love you, but you're so stupid." The unknown male said.
"I love you too. Now who are you?" I said.
"Daniel, but he's coming back. I have to go. I'll see you later," he said, stepping out of the darkness. He was perfect.
He had a light complexion, and dark hair that completely contrasted. His eyes were light blue. He reached forward and hugged me.
"I love you," he breathed.
And just like that, he was gone.
