Rihanna's POV
It's been a week since my mother and I first arrived in Detroit and we finally finished unpacking the last of the moving boxes. So far the most I can make out of this city is its constant gloomy weather and ignorant people that seem to never be happy. I've only managed to make one friend and that's only because he's my moms new boss's son, so I was kinda forced into the friendship. Andy is cool though, he's laid back but gets really excited about certain things, and he works at some clothing store in the mall so he thinks he can hook me up with a job.
"Robyn I'm thinking about going the store later to pick up some more things we need around the house, do you wanna come?" My mother asks as she unfolds a table cloth and smooths it down over our small dinner table meant for a family of four. "I need to get some cleaning supplies, and stuff for the shower."
"I can't, Andy wants to take me to a cd signing at the hip hop shop. I guess one of his favorite rappers is giving out autographs today..." I tell her and she quickly looks at me with a spark in her eye and a glowing smile and I roll my eyes already knowing what she's going to say.
"You've hung out a lot with this Andy boy." My mom pointed out as she raised her eyebrows twice as if inferring that I had some other agenda.
"We've only hung out like three times." I said as if it denied my mothers claim about me having feelings for Andy. I mean he's sweet, I just don't know if he's the type of guy I'd be into. "Plus I think he likes someone else.."
"Really? Who?" My mom carried out the conversation as she grabbed the flower center piece and placed it on the table.
"I don't know... He talks about other girls a lot when he's around me." I answer and a loud honk sounds from outside the house and I instantly knew it was Andy waiting for me outside.
"Well have a good time sweetie." My mom ushered me out of the house, handing me my purse and waved a half hearted goodbye as she watched me climb into Andy's car.
"You ready to go girlie?" Andy greeted me as I fumbled with my seat belt, trying to clip it into place. I glanced over at Andy to examine his basic features. He has a small lanky frame and short shaggy hair that he obviously doesn't know how to style because he either slides it back or to the side.
"Uh yeah." I say finally buckling the seat belt. "How far away is this signing anyway?"
"About twenty minutes." Andy responds now pulling out of the drive way and onto the street.
"Who is it again?"
"He's an underground rapper that goes by Childish T, he recently put out his first record and it was fucking amazing." Andy explains to me ecstatically as he continues to drive down the pot hole filled road. I swear everything in this city is falling apart.
"Yeah my friends and I used to go watch his-" Andy suddenly stopped his bantering when his car began to abruptly slow down. He managed to salvage the little bit of momentum he had left and pulled over the the side of the road. Sadly for us we were in the middle of nowhere and the signing was at least ten minutes away by car, and probably about twenty five on foot. "Shit this sucks!" Andy groans, getting out of the car and opening the hood. I decide to get out as well and walk around to the front of the vehicle to help search for the problem.
"I blame the fucking pot holes." Andy says as he digs his had around the engine and randomly tightens things, getting grease all over him.
