This was insane. I looked at the clock. 1:30. I looked back through the window and nodded carefully, still unsure whether this was real or a hallucination conjured by my tired mind. I turned slowly towards the bed, not willing to lose sight of him while he climbed through the window. I sat on the edge of the bed, tense as the green eyes stared at me as though expecting something. I'm not the one who knocked on the window. I thought, both annoyed and hopeful for what is to come.

I hear laughing and I look up to see him looking at me, apparently amused. Did I say that out loud? Whoops. "That's how I remember this." He starts with a smirk.

I was not amused. I was infuriated, in fact. But I couldn't ruin this. It had been too long, and I needed to know why.

"Where were you? And why are you here now?"

He seems taken aback by my words, as he stared at his hands for a while before sighing and looking me in the eye as he pulled a chair facing me. "I know we haven't spoken for a while, and I shouldn't have-"

I couldn't believe he had the nerve to come here in the middle of the night and dodge my questions.

"Answer the question, Asher!" I nearly shouted, risking waking up the house. I lost my confidence and looked down at the crumpled sheets in my fist as tears blurred my vision. "Where is she?" I stuttered, "She doesn't know you're here, does she? Wh-where is she?"

His green eyes pierced mine as he uttered just two words-

"She's gone."
