There was silence through the house that night. Still I couldn't sleep. There was a tense energy around me which kept me awake as the hands danced about the face of the clock. TapTap. Tap. TapTap. Tap. I jolt up in my sheets as pebbles from the ground hit my window in perfect rhythm. TapTap. Tap. It had been forever since I had heard the sound, and I was sure I was dreaming. TapTap. Tap. I slid from the sheets and walked slowly toward the window, cringing when my foot made the floor creak, hesitating in a strange way. I just couldn't seem to shake the energy around me, and it was pressing in, making me jumpy. TapTap. Tap.
I pinched the back of my hand, watching as the skin moved back to place. I wasn't dreaming. TapTap. Tap. I put my hand on my window, fearing the worst, that this was just a dream, that I would wake up. But then again, I wasn't sure I wanted to see this if it wasn't a dream. TapTap. Tap. I took a breath, closed my eyes, and threw open the window. I let out my breath, and opened my eyes to see an equally nervous pair of green eyes stare back at me. It was stalemate, with neither of us moving or breaking eye contact. I knew who it was from the start of the tapping, but nothing prepared me for it now. I blinked, but the eyes remained. I couldn't say anything. I was about to shut the window out of fear when-
"Can I come in?"
