I groaned because I couldn't sleep. It was 1 AM in the morning and I had school tomorrow. I kept thinking about what happened.

"Hey."

"Umm Hi?"

I saw that Jax brought a picnic basket and a blanket. I internally groaned. Why is this turning so cliche?

"I see that you brought us food." I said awkwardly.

Jax looked at me and awkwardly scratched the back of his head.

"Well yeah, I don't know how long we're going to be staying here, but I figured you were hungry so I brought you food." He said smiling.

I opened the picnic basket and saw sandwiches, chips, soda, and some carrots?

"You brought us carrots?" I asked.

"My mom made me bring them." He replied.

I didn't want to just ditch him and leave him here when he was kind of enough to bring me food. I guess I'm going to be home late tonight.

I put the blanket on the grass and flattened it out. I got the food out and we both started digging in.

A few hours later, we were lying under the stars talking about random things until something popped up in my mind.

"Is this a date or..?" I asked.

Part of me wishes he would say yes but the other part wishes he would say no. Why can't my brain just fucking decide already?

"No, no, no, unless you want it to be" He said wiggling his eyebrows.

"I'm fine. It's not a date, it's just us hanging out AS FRIENDS." I said emphasizing on the "as friends" part.

"Yeah, sure, why not? As long as I get to hang out with you Avery." He said flashing me his swoon-worth grin.

My heart fluttered at his grin. Wait WHAT?!? Fluttered?! Is this some sick joke. When did I, Avery Perkins, become lovesick, actually crushsick. I gagged at the thought. Okay, stay calm. Do not let this crushey-dovey shit get out of control. I'm not in love with him, THANK GOD for that.

"I better get going." I said standing up, wiping the grass off my butt.

"That's a great ass." He said winking.

"Shut up." I said rolling my eyes.

"Jax?" I asked.

"Hmm?"

"Thanks for everything tonight though." I said smiling, still looking at the stars.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a tint of red on his cheeks.

"I have to go home now." I said looking at him.

I turned around and started walking towards my car.

"Wait, Avery!" He yelled.

"What?"

I whipped my head around and he kissed me. HE FUCKING KISSED ME?!? AGAIN? I pushed him back before he could do more, I saw his face turn red and I took that as my cue to leave. I ran to my car and started it, driving away from the park to home.

I slam my face into the pillow. AUGH! Why is this so confusing? I text Arabella because I need to get my mind off things,

Me: Heyyy, are you awake?

Arabella: Yes woman, I can't sleep so what's up

Me: nothing much wbu?

Yes, I use abbreviations or texting slang because I'm too fucking lazy to type the whole thing.

Arabella: same

Me: btw what did you have to do after school?

Arabella: family issues

Me: ahh ok

Arabella: gtg Chase is being annoying again

Me: how typical of Chase

Arabella: Yeah well byeeeeeeeeeeeee

I went to sleep after that and the whole night, I slept peacefully.

I woke up at 6 AM because I was hungry. But I'm too lazy to go get food. Ugh this is where '#firstworldproblems' comes to play. I got ready for school before I could get food. Procrastinating is never a good thing kids.

I went downstairs to the kitchen when I suddenly stopped. I saw my mom in the kitchen with a man. He had brown hair with a few gray hairs. He looked in his 40's - around the same age as my mom.

"Hey mom, who is that?" I ask sticking my thumb in his direction.

"Avery don't be rude, this is Dave, Dave this is Avery." She said gesturing towards me and him.

"Nice to meet you Avery." He said.

"Same with you. Okay I'm going to go now." I said, quickly getting cereal from my pantry. I eat cereal from the box, deal with it.

I dash up the stairs and close my door. That was awkward. But who is he? Was he my dad's best friend? Did he know my dad? I gasp, are they dating? I mean it is acceptable for her but what about dad? Don't be stupid Avery, he died years ago. Get over it.

I have to accept the fact that she's moving on. I'm just jumping to conclusions here. We don't know who he really is, so I'll just ask my mom when he leaves. I don't do well around strangers, it's awkward as fuck and it's just weird. I lay on my bed for a few minutes or so waiting for this so called "Dave" to leave.

When I didn't hear any giggling or mumbling downstairs, I decided that he left so I came down. Turns out I was right (thankfully). My mom was sitting at the table with her phone, giggling. I smile and roll my eyes, my mom can be such a teenage girl sometimes. I sit down at the table next to her and took a peek at her phone, her voluntary response was to immediately pull the phone away causing her to fall down. I laugh and she glared at me, "Don't ever give me a fright like that again Avery!"

"Anyways, who was that?" I ask.

"Dave, you mean?"

I nodded my head and waited for her response. Minutes passed and I grew impatient. After finally for what seemed like forever, she answered.

"He's my fiancé."
