All we do is drive // All we do is think about the feelings that we hide

----
"Let's go on a roadtrip, mikeyway" was a sentence Mikey never thought he'd hear, especially from Pete.

Pete had always been more of a person that preferred to be a Relatable Teen™, which means stay at home and eat pizza and watch netflix and just not socialize.

Mikey on the other hand, loved to travel and just to be outside. He loved beautiful scenery and the way certain seasons smelled and just everything. But, Mikey had the palest skin imaginable and got sunburned easily but that didn't stop him, a literal vampire from sitting in the sunshine and making flower crowns.

They left the day after Pete suggested it. They piled into Pete's old van and took off, away from Chicago. Mikey wasn't exactly sure where they were going but he trusted Pete.

--

Pete was stuck. He felt trapped in his own home. He felt trapped in his own body because of some conflicting feelings about a boy.

The boy in question was Pete's best friend, Mikey.

To put it as simply as possible, Pete was in love with Mikey Way. But he didn't want to be. He probably didn't feel the same way and besides, Mikey is Pete's best friend. If he ever told Mikey and he didn't feel the same way, their friendship would be ruined.

Pete didn't want to risk it. So he bottled those bubbly feelings for a certain spaghetti legged pastel vampire boy and pushed them into the corner of his mind.

But one day, Pete caved.

He couldn't hold these feelings in anymore. He wanted- no, needed to tell Mikey. And what better way to do that than take him on a roadtrip. Where they'll be stuck together if Mikey rejects him. He was starting to regret this roadtrip idea.

But none the less, they went.

---

When they finally hit the highway it was about 7 at night. They had stopped at a cute little town they saw got food before leaving. The sun was beginning set as they drove out onto the open road.

Pete lifted one hand from the steering wheel and pointed a cloud.

"Look at that cloud mikeyway."

Mikey looked up from his phone and looked at the cloud Pete was pointing at.

"It says you're a nerd," Pete said, giggling.

Mikey blushed before mumbling a little "shut up".

They stayed silent after that, occasionally making small talk, pointing out something they saw on the side of road or sometimes Mikey read Pete text posts that he found funny just to see his friends eyes crinkle up and hear his adorable laugh.

Wait.

Why did Mikey describe his laugh like that? He had never thought his friend was adorable before.

He didn't spend a lot of time dwelling on that though, because Pete spoke up.

"Y'know," he said, tightening his grip on the steering wheel, "Chicago never felt like home to me, until I had you on the open road."

"Why are you so hopelessly poetic?" Mikey questioned, laughing off the affectionate remark. What does that even mean?

"You're basically the only home I've known. I feel so comfortable around you and I feel at home with you, no matter where we are, even here on this highway."

Mikey blushed, "oh" was all he said.

They sat in silence for awhile after that. Mikey had turned the radio up at one point so it didn't seem so quiet.

---

It's now almost 2 am and Pete's just driving around aimlessly. He's still waiting for the right time to tell Mikey.

He made everything awkward with that overly affectionate confession. They were close, but not that close. Yet.

After a few minutes Pete decides he's going to do it. So, he pulls over. Mikey, who had been half asleep, looked slightly confused at the sudden stop.

"So, mikeyway, I've been hiding something from you for awhile now." Pete's voice is shaking slightly.

"Yeah?" Mikey looks over at his slightly nervous best friend.

"So, I've been thinking about these feelings that I've been hiding for awhile. I've been sitting in silence, waiting for a sign that you feel the same. I- uh should probably tell you what those feelings are." Pete starts wringing his hands in an anxious manner.

Mikey just nodded.

"I kind of have this gigantic crush on you that I've had for a couple years and its slowly ruining me because you're so adorable."

Mikey's mouth went dry. He suddenly lost all ability to form coherent words so he just made a few attempts an understandable sentence and then nodded.

"Would it really kill you if we kiss?" Pete turned to the blushing mess that is Mikey Way.

Mikey nodded once again and leaned towards Pete.

Their lips were about to touch when a screeching sound pierced the quiet night air. Suddenly everything was a bright white. There was a loud smashing sound, a scream, and a brief wave of blinding pain and then nothing at all.
